FF News
Former Chorley, Salford City, Rossendale and Trafford manager Mark Molyneaux has registered to play for Ramsbottom United in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League at the age of 53! Affectionately known in North West Non-League circles as Molly, the Rams coach has been persuaded to pick up his gloves again for the upcoming Premier Division campaign by manager Jon Robinson. Molyneaux was enticed back into the game at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium last term by his fellow Salfordian having retired from football. Now he has gone one step further with the Rams set to kick off in their second successive top flight campaign a week today at Rushall Olympic on Saturday 15 August. Molly, who is fast approaching his 54th birthday, signed on as emergency cover for first choice keeper Grant Shenton and his elder brother and recently signed fellow stopper Ashley Shenton. Despite his slim chances of making history as one of the oldest players to take to the field in the Evo-Stik NPL, Molyneaux reckons he'll be ready to fly off the bench if his chance comes. The former Ashton United, Salford City, Droylsden, Hyde United, Irlam Town, Macclesfield Town and Nottingham Forest star declared: “If I’m called upon, then I’m fit and ready to go!"
