Midweek Fixtures & Results - Tuesday 11th/Wednesday 12th August

Recommended Posts

Gritty 2-1 away win at Stotfold to go top despite an abysmal referee. Upset everyone including the SSML official attending!

Couldn't officiate a game at this level and resulted in a player going to A&E.

Stotfold need to raise their game off the pitch too.

Only 4 bacon rolls available (only immediate hot food on sale), only 2 cans of proper beer which were then stewarded to the correct square inch of the terrace and the slowest service ever & stroppy fans everywhere.

Can't wait for the latest Hoddy pdf'd excuses tomorrow.

Is that clicking sound, the arthritic cocking of Roger's trigger finger?

Two excellent results for Tring Corinthians, Colin Phillips is a top bloke and will do an excellent job there, Ex Tring Athletic legend Andy Humphreys got 2 on Saturday and ex Athletic Trevor Gibbs got 4 last night !!!

Watched Harpenden last night and was very disappointed . Didn't recognise a single player from the previous season ? Didn't have the two big centre halfs playing or there creative midfielders ?? Lost a few players i guess or injury hit ?

Ground Hooper Report

Tring Corinthians 5 Totternhoe 0 (Spartan South Midlands League Division 2) Att: 42 (h/c was 32) f&n

Both teams won 5-0 on Saturday, so a reasonably close encounter could have been on the cards. It wasn't. A 2nd minute penalty put Tring on the way and it was 2-0 just before half time. A little pressure from the visitors didn't really amount to much and three second half goals finished the job off. Tring were pretty impressive for this level, particularly their midfield - they are top of the table tonight and they may well stay there.

The ground is a curious affair, being little more than a field at the side of the B488 with a clubhouse and changing rooms, plus goal posts. The pitch was roped on one and a half sides but spectators took up positions all round. Good company in the form of the ever affable Villan. Tea was 80p but wasn't very nice. No prog - 'we're going to do one'. A most enjoyable evening, without a single road closure on the way home. Remarkable.

Some more from another hopper called Villan

As Tim reports I was also at Tring Corinthians 5-0 Totternhoe at Icknield Way. A good evening despite the persistent light drizzle. The game was not as one sided as score suggests & visitors had plenty of possession. They did not really threaten however & hosts did seem stronger & clearly tonight had much more firepower especially No.10 (Trevor Gibbs) who hit 4. We credited with 3 including 2nd minute penalty but hosts told me he got last goal on 88 as well. Some of the goals were very good strikes as well. Hosts also hit the bar in 1st half. As Tim states ground basic with no spectator facilities pitchside & access not intended all round. A slope exists towards entrance end but not significant. A cosy clubhouse selling burgers & hot/cold drinks including Tring brewery side pocket in a bottle. Good company from Tim helped to ensure a good night. Glad my goal less run stopped at 2 games.

Bedford v Leverstock Green was off due to Bedford's clubhouse still under construction and game could not be reversed due to Leverstock Green unable to have home midweek games in August (agreement with local residents)

Snobs

Leverstock FC need to find a new ground if they want to progress.

I counted around 140 people at this eves game. A good game i enjoyed it. Adem Ali was a class player for Edgware Town FC.

I thought Southall battled well with 10 men and did well to keep it to just 0 1 for so long but Edgware Town should have scored 6 or 7 goals at the very least. A good game to watch and the reverse fixture will be very interesting thats for sure.

Sending off after only 7 minutes totally ruined the game - Southall FC excellent with 10 players for practically the whole match.

Yeah you will not want to miss the return leg - for sure

Great support from both sets of fans

Any news on that injury? Hope the lads ok.

Tring Corries... Blimey! Long way to go yet but +10 goal difference is always handy!!

Thought Stony may have given Kents more or a battle than that. Maybe the score line is deceptive though!

Maybe their Oxford City loan players haven't arrived yet
