Vs Frome

Recommended Posts

First half was very even with Frome having the better chances. Second half went more sloughs way with McClurg having two great chances which just needed to be tapped in but somehow missed the target with both.

We will be mid table after the first round of games, we just need t stay there now but probably a bit higher.

The match of the day was probably Bideford vs St Neots, Bideford were 3-0 down but came back to draw 4-4

Not a classic but apparently the pitch was poor, from the amount of dust that appeared with every kick you could tell there was a lack of grass! Obviously the heat would affect the performance too but we did have chances to nick it but it wasn't to be. I thought Mark and Craig Scott played well, indeed the defensive side looked pretty good, just need to be more clinical. But we've got a clean sheet, a point is better than losing and we will improve so not all is lost.

Yes not much quality on display this afternoon from either team. On the plus side we looked a bit more solid than we did a lot of the time last season and Craig Scott impressed me on his debut. Hopefully he's not too badly injured, Jake looked like he was struggling at the end too.

Not sure I liked our shape with Jake on the left and Webb on the right. They both did okay but I'd like to see them in their more natural positions. The sooner we can get Adam Martin into midfield the better but he might well be needed in defence before then. We probably should have scored from some good chances in the second half but a nil nil seemed a fair score with both defences on top.

All in all a game to forget though!

Disappointed with Lewis first half as he seemed lost and not involved, little better second half but understand why he was subbed.

Certainly no worse than Ed Smith.

I thought we were creating nothing for Putts to feed off and when he moved out wide he was creating most of the chances?

First 20 minutes I thought Frome looked more livelier than us and we were second best to most ball. We then settled more into the game but without creating any chances.

The only other moment of note in the first half was Ed Smiths failure to pass to Lewis Putman who was in a goal scoring position.

Second half we were a lot better and created 2 or 3 good chances and really should have scored at least one. The chances started to come through Lewis Putman moving out to the left and putting in some very good crosses.

Must admit I was surprised it was Putts who was subbed as he was creating chances from his whipped crosses.

Not a good game to watch on what was a poor pitch and a boiling hot day, still we didn't lose and we go again on Tuesday against Biggles who had a good win today.

I thought Lewis Putman worked his socks off and deserved to stay on. Tough day for both teams on a boiling hot day, with Slough having enough chances to win but not being able to finish.

I, too,was impressed with Craig Scott but thought all our back line including our keeper and Adam Martin were good.

Would have liked three points but one isn't a bad return on such a dust bowl pitch and with that heat.

Not good but not terrible......................if you dont make the most of chances you dont win games.............but  at least we created those chances and were probably just the better side today.

Defence, especially the keeper , looked sound................slightly disagree with some others in that I thought we were better with Scott

Harris than with Putts........and Wazza will soon be back to his best methinks

MOTM.................Jake again by far
