Tring Corinthians
We have had one of our new signings queried with regards to International Clearance.... He went to University in Wales and played for his Swansea University team in a local league. He never got clearance when he went to Wales. He came back 12 months ago and played for another club for 1 season and didn't get clearance again. Yet it is being queried now? This is nonsense surely? Surely this rule wasn't devised for young lads going away and playing for their Uni...
Karen Browne
I suggest you contact the Football Association International Clearance is required for players who have played in Ireland, Wales and Scotland as well as abroad.
petethegreek
Now called an International Transfer Certificate. "It is the responsibility of each Club to ensure that any Player signing a registration form for that Club has, where necessary, the required International Transfer Certificate. Clearance is required for any Player aged 10 and over crossing borders including Wales, Scotland and Ireland."
Tring Corinthians
So what exactly is the point of this ruling? Why should the FA be bothered if a kid goes to Uni in Wales (hardly a rare occurrence). What if he comes home from uni for Xmas - is he not allowed to play for his home town club while he is back?! What if he comes home from uni for Xmas - is he not allowed to play for his home town club while he is back?! This isn't the FA's fault really. Pretty certain it is FIFA that made it mandatory for transfers. Unfortunately for the UK it seems bizarre, however it is the status with FIFA that is important and Wales have their own FA. It should be fairly straight forward getting it sorted with them.

Big J R
These rules are indeed FIFA instigated. As Karen said above, your County FA will be glad to advise. Better safe than sorry later !
Munchkin
Fair point regarding FIFA Munchkin. If you've got anyone that played for Gossoms End, when they won the FA Sunday Cup, they'll know the rule because they got reinstated after the semi final after someone from Wales played against them.
