George Purcell gave Hornchurch the lead on 21 minutes, when he picked up a pass in midfield from Jed Chouman, turned, and scored with a hard drive from 30 yards – 1-0. Home keeper Adam Highstead made an excellent save to turn a hard Purcell shot out for a corner, and shortly afterwards Purcell earned the biggest cheer of the match when his mistimed shot not only veered vertically some twenty yards to the right of the goal, but cleared a four-storey block of flats, before the ball bounced back off the steeply pitched roof – at the interval home officials claimed this has never before been achieved. Joey May went close following a good move, and with a minute to go to the interval Sam Mott made his first save of a one-sided first half. Almost on half time Tobi Joseph opened up the left side, and his pass found Calvin Poku, whose hard shot from the edge of the area was well saved by Highstead. Whitstable started the second half strongly, and Mott saved well from Nick Treadwell, and on 52 minutes they drew level. Kieron Campbell replaced Kane Rowland, and within seconds the ball was worked upfield to Ira Jackson, who neatly beat Mott with a well-directed shot. 1-1. Two minutes later Hornchurch had an excellent opportunity when Mott played the ball deep into the home half, and David Knight ran on, but keeper Highstead came out to make a fine save. Highstead again saved from Knight a minute later, and Knight then went close with a shot which beat the keeper but went wide of the far post. With Hornchurch making several substitutions, Ishmel Demontagnac came on for his debut, and made some neat contributions, but play remained even until Sam Mott rushed out of his goal in the final minute and clattered against a home forward. Scott Heard took the penalty, Mott saved, but Heard followed up to score the winning goal.
cup of tea
I think that was the game we needed. We've clearly got a talented team and there's a lot of effort going on as well. George Purcell is playing really well and scored a cracking goal. Think the changes combined with a determined second half performance from Whitstable made it a more even second half with Whitstable on top at the beginning of that half. Good away game, nice place and friendly people .

Miss.A.F.C.Hornchurch
Great first half. But not so much in the second half as changes were made and the increasing heat of the afternoon. Not bothered about the score as its only a friendly after all. Great day out, agree nice club and people at Whitstable. Do it again next pre-season?
