PSF v Ascot United

Recommended Posts

I know we had players missing and players coming back from holidays etc but having said that we were still pretty awful today.

Hardly a decent move strung together and no shots on target all game.

Well done to Ascot who played really well and should have won the game a lot more comfortably.

IMO the only player who played anywhere near his capabilities was Lewis Putman.

First poor 90 minutes in pre-season so hopefully just a blip and look forward to a better showing against Wealdstone.

Under the thumb or what !

Mind you, Craig, you're probably doing it right, as my ex brought up in arguments before the divorce, that I took her for granted by me going to watch Slough's awayday Conference matches !

Talk about her being unreasonable !! :D

I can imagine your conversation, Stuart.....

Ex: "You think more of Slough Town than me"

3spirit: "I think more of Wycombe than I do of you!!" :-)

Will be interesting to hear what the managers think they learned from this game !

That it was a poor performance, no papering over the cracks, they unfortunately wanted it more than us on the day.

However to date we have had a good pre season, and are not unduly worried, you see results and performances like this every year from teams, and it was our day yesterday.

In reality we were missing, Scott Harris, Warren Harris, Jake Parsons, Guy Hollis, Gary Macdonald, and Craig Scott yesterday, and we also had Wes Harrison playing for his first 90 minutes in 18 months, plus Adam doing his first 90 after missing the whole of pre season, and a few who were completely off their game.

As someone mentioned Puts had a decent game, and deserved a goal, however they still deserved to win the game.

No issue whatsoever with the game tomorrow, we will have a number back etc.

What happened to the triallist Nditi?

Must admit I left yesterday bitterly disappointed but it is just pre season and we have beaten some good sides to date

Not sure he was really a trialist, I thought he was just helping out for one game due to Ryan Parsons possibly not being fit and lack of bodies on the ground.

I expect they were all looking forward to Unders BBQ

I thought most Slough players seemed to have the mindset that they were already at the barbecue, other than at the game itself !

Slough were truly awful, with only Lewis Putman,Mark Scott and Nathan Webb showing up.

We will have to be a hell of a lot better against Wealdstone but as Bakes says Wes Harrison isn't going to be our regular centre half and Ben Edwards,Adam Martin and Adrian Sear all need match minutes.

I think that on current form our first eleven, if all fit, is nearly chosen, for the Frome game.

Mark Scott is the nailed on goalie. Right back is a straight choice between Sean Fraser and Callum Webb.Ryan Parsons will be the left back. Can't see past Guy Hollis and Gary McDonald for the centre half pairing, as Billy Jeffery's hasn't done much IMO to warrant a starting place.

Centre midfield I expect to be Clurgy and Nathan Webb. Right wing is nailed on certainty to be Jake Parsons with Chris Henry on the left wing.

Up front Lewis Putman should start given his form with a straight choice between Ed and Scott for the other forward position.

..........But I might be wrong ! ha ha !

Two positives from Saturday's game was how nice Ascot United ground/club is and having the link for our players to play there, when needed. Should be ideal for both clubs.

I'll have to backtrack on my centre half pairing, now Gary is unavailable and Craig Scott is not ready.

Billy Jeffery's has to step up to the plate. He must be a better player than his form suggests, as he wouldn't have been captain of Hampton and Richmond for nothing. I truly hope he gets his mojo back to be useful for Slough to shut me up as a critic but worryingly I've yet to see him play well alongside Guy Hollis.

Still nothing is set in stone and I've been wrong before ! :)

Dave Woozley and Darren Anderson are both centre halves and cases to point, as both took time to settle in but both became legends for the club by the end of their stay. So nothing is stopping Billy doing the same.

We don't know the extent of Craig Scott's injury. Let's hope he can get 90 minutes tonight to put him in the frame for Saturday.

Along with Adam Martin's lack of a pre-season, it's not ideal but could give someone else the opportunity to grab their chance for a place in the starting 11.

Craig Scott has only played in one friendly and has been out since January. Very tall order to expect him to be ready to play.

Unders,in the Slough Observer, was quoted as saying ' how good he feels about the strength in depth we have as a squad this season'. I agree on paper it is good but injuries and absences have decimated it somewhat and I feel that we are a little under-cooked for the start of the league games.

Friendly results mean nothing, for how the league games pan out, I know.

I want to be optimistic about our early season form but I'm not as convinced ,as I thought I would have been, by now. We won against poor opposition in Farnborough and Burnham. Wingate beat us too easy. Hayes was a fairly even game with us lucky to get the win.

Met Police game was enjoyable and we played some good stuff but they themselves are in transition. At Ascot we were garbage and deservedly lost.

Tonight we need to see a lot better but I would definitely wrap Jake Parsons up in cotton wool and only play him for 45 mins,as he has become a vital cog to the side currently.

However,I have faith in our managers to sort it out.

Que Sera, sera. What will be,will be.

Blimey the first league game hasn't passed yet and we've got worried/anxious fans! Let's give at least 5 games before we assess how the season might pan out

Look Glen we can all sit on the fence and never put our head above the parapit but sometimes you just have to say how you see it.

Tonight [Wealdstone] we went some way of reassuring the skeptics/pessimists among us but 5 games or even 10 games won't tell us where we will finish the season and nobody knows how strong or weak we will be in the league games to come, not even our managers, regardless of the spin they put on it.

We all seem to agree we have a decent squad to compete in this division but only time will tell if they will be a success this season. For me, success is a good Cup run [FA Cup or Trophy] and finishing in the top 12, but I think we will still have our work cut out to do just this but here's hoping........
