George Purcell and Calvin Poku both came close to opening the score, but were denied thanks to two excellent saves by Mikhael Kharshiladze, who was again in action when he came out quickly to save at the feet of Purcell. Dave Collis created the opening goal with a long cross from the right, which was neatly headed home at the far post by Junior Luke on 18 minutes. Billericay rarely threatened, but had an opportunity to draw level when Danny Johnson conceded a penalty. Jamie Guy stepped up, but directed his shot high and over the bar on 32 minutes. Billericay did not manage a shot on target during the first half, but despite their domination Hornchurch could not increase their lead, with Abs Thompson particularly dangerous on the right wing. The second half followed a similar pattern, as Hornchurch continued to press, and Sam Mott had just one shot to save. The only other moment of danger was a long throw from Loui Hazlewood, which was headed away by Collis. George Purcell went close with a free kick, before Jim MacFarlane introduced a number of substitutes in the second half, with Lee Prescott going close. Tobi Joseph left the visiting defence in his wake before his centre found Junior Luke, who neatly fired home for the second goal on 73 minutes.
