Grays 1- 1 Billericay

Decent result this, Grays is never an easy place to go, and we definately had 2 decent chances to score more!

Had a few players out for this game:

Hockton - injured

Andy Jones - Ill (shingles apparently)

We lined up:

Weaver

Graham Redders Sappleton Henty

S.Jones Hunter Davidson Dormer©

Black Okita(Tolan)

All the new boys aquited themselves well - as did Stevie Jones who had probably his best game for us down the right.

Jones won us an early pen when he was toppled in the box by their keeper who was lucky to stay on the pitch. Double lucky when he found out that Dormer's not the best at taking penalties!

Redders put us in the lead with a header from a corner, but Grays battled back and regained the lead from another corner which beat Weaver at his near post (possible deflection?)

Second half fairly insipid, although okita had a header which looked like it had just cleared the line, unfortunately the lino was a mile behind play and didn't give it.

Overall a decent performance, we lacked a cutting edge up front with all 3 of the strikers we had last saturday out for various reasons. Not going to get carried away, but the signs are fairly hopeful that Justin is taking the necessary action to strengthen his team in defense and centre mid.

Good result and a bit unlucky ,couldnt tell from where i was whether it was over or not but the linesman was a mile away

Thought the new keeper looked solid as did Davidson in the middle off the park.I thought we were on top first half and were unlucky to go in 1-1 the second half they came on strong but we held on ,which is a good sign

Well done lads for the spirit shown and Dorms no more penalties please

this was a good result for us and overall i thought we shaded it.

in the first half we were by far the better team. their keeper should have gone in the first minute but the ref bottled it. unfortunately the pen was poor but to our credit it just seemed to spur us on and we deservedly took the lead. sappleton who i thgt just shaded davidson as pick of the new boys headed off the line and they scored a bizarre equaliser which seemed to creep in direct from a corner without anyone realising it.

grays had a lot of possession in the second half but we probably had the best chance with okita s header being scooped back by the keeper and the lino who was helplessly behind play gave grays the benefit of the doubt as to whether it was over the line.

the best thing for me about todays performance was how solid we looked defensively. despite being against one of the better strike forces in the league i really didnt see them scoring. we can only take one game and result at a time but i bet the management must be happier with what i reckon was our best team performance for ages.

the sparse home crowd booed their team off at the end but i think we deserve the credit in this one...lets keep it up.

Agree with simon about Jones, everything that was good about us today involved him. Dont think anyone should be too harsh on dormer. Anyone thats played the game knows it takes balls to take a pen, sometimes they just go wrong..erm horribly wrong!!

Thought the new lads looked good, and i think when you consider how many new faces we had playing for the first time in the same game, this was a great result. I reckon the team will feel a lot better about things after this result, just a shame for us that Harrow got a win.

Good solid performance. Particularly impressed with the way we dealt with thier front two of Eastwood and Griffiths. Also reassuring to see that whilst Grays had plenty of possession in the second half, we did not concede or look like conceeding. As for Okita's effort, my gut instinct was that it was over, not that the lino was in any position to be sure either way. Best attempt of the day was Micheal Blacks effort from the half-way line. Can only be encouraged by the debutants. Onwards and upwards!
