I see Hale Leys got thumped by Buckingham Ath who I believe are mainly young inexperienced side. not sure if there is anything to read but maybe Hale Leys players who have played higher have gone back to playing higher leaving them light....

Hale Leys didnt look very different at all to last season, different keeper but largely the same.

An Ath sub said Hale Leys had been most unlucky and had lots of chances. Kingy was immense for the Ath. (4 goals)

Players that receive brown envelopes aren't necessarily the best players. The team with the biggest budget doesn't automatically win the league. That's bonkers.

Agreed. Point being made was if a chairman gave a manager that budget and they didn't walk it you'd ask questions. Like it or not a larger budget attracts a better caliber of player and therefore expectations. i agree though it doesn't however make the 'team' better hence why I make colney favourites.

It shouldn't but it does come down to budgets and if that's the case Afc walk the prem. if they don't heads should role. London colney have to be favourites though on last years form and signings.

Who let the cat out of the bag we have a £250,000 budget ? (and don't say me)

Better get a lot of brown envelopes

Jonno,

Do you know more than you're telling about brown envelopes

Tried to sign a few WGC players during the off season but can't compete financially with what they are on so have had to look elsewhere

Those that hand the envelopes out shouldn't have loose lips after a pint or 3!!

I'm sure that W.H. Smith are looking forward to your bulk order !!

The people on the defensive about the budgets are clearly ones worried that they might not compete after spending that money. In my opinion if you're willing to pay players 30's 40's and 50's a game then you should be right in the mix!! I mean we all know BJ Christie only pays for money.....

The team that wins the league will be the Team that has a squad of 15/16 players who play for each other. Not 15 that play for them selves. Hence the reason London Colney did so well.

Lets be fair as well to the teams paying money at least they are getting huge crowds

Don't be fooled if you think players at London Colney are playing for fun.

IMO having a budget is acceptable if it is sustainable. If you are averaging around 100 on the gate, then why not reinvest in your playing squad. Better players, better football, bigger gates, more revenue.

Budgets become an issue when clubs rely on an individual to provide it, or the source of finance is coming from outside of the club. Should the individual or the revenue stream dry up then that's where clubs go to the wall.

In the case of AFC Dunstable, i am not surprised that they have a healthy budget. They have excellent facilities at Creasy Park which I am sure generates a huge amount of revenue. It is no surprise that more and more clubs are looking to install 3G pitches at their grounds - don't be fooled into thinking this is to reduce the number of postponements, it is merely a method of generating more revenue for the club.

We at WGC are looking forward to having our 3G facility installed before the end of the year, and of course anticipate that it will generate good revenue through hire to other local teams. Makes sense, and yes it may be that we can put some of this towards our budget. We also benefit from good attendances, and a very healthy social club.

It is worth remembering that Football clubs at our level should be considered as not for profit organisations. If there is a surplus, it should be reinvested - whether that be in the playing squad or the facilities is irrelevant.
