New Ground Approval ?

Recommended Posts

I heard tonight that the result from todays council meeting was that the New community sports ground has been approved.

I don't know all the details so will let those who do discuss more about it, however it did sound like the final few hurdles have been past and its now possibly a clear run into the home straight.

Me and ARAAS were at the meeting. Cllr Carter delivered a presentation around the council's entire long-term leisure strategy. He talked about the need to address rising social care costs through a major cultural generation change in attitudes and opportunities toward leisure. This included mental health as well as physical. Notwithstanding my interest in the community stadium I thought it was a very well thought out and necessary approach.

Cllr Dexter Smith had his say about the stadium and why we shouldn't go ahead, mainly to do with the funding but, let's be honest, Dexter Smith is one of those councillors who is looking for any reason NOT to do anything. They proved that when they were in power. Whilst I dislike the tit-for-tat sniping of politics, James Swindlehurst's put down of Dexter Smith in response was quite amusing.

In short, 29 for, 3 against and 6 abstentions to going ahead with a change to the capital funding to crack on whilst they await DfE cash.

All system go :-)

Just me or is anyone else waiting for it to sink in the reality of actually playing in a brand spanking new ground that is OURS! Maybe once construction starts or the first game it may happen but it still seems like a dream.

Yes, it is hard to take in that we really could be playing in our own ground by this time next year.

This has only been made possible by the many years of hard work and shear determination of our Chairman Steve Easterbrook to whom we will be forever thankful.

Do we need a new video, the design of the stadium is to remain the same, no?

On the SBC site it says that a 'Short Life task group has been set up with the specific aim of delivering reduced costs by improved design and a better understanding of buildability'.

Based on that statement I'd say there's an good chance that the original design of the CSF will to some degree be altered.

I'll be happy with whatever it turns out to be, especially as we already know it has to come up to our current Southern Premier league standards.

The reason, why I'll be happy with whatever we get : It's our own ground in the borough of Slough
