Dagger03
Saturday 18-July-2015 RAMSGATE (0) 1 HORNCHURCH (1) 2 Sam Mott Tom Potter, Billy Coyne, Elliot Styles, Leon Smith, Joey May, Abs Thompson, Tom Pellen, David Knight, Calvin Poku, Tobi Joseph. Subs: George Purcell Vlad Sighiartu Simon Glover Kieron English Paulius Ditkevicius Matt Rose Harry Lewis. 30 mins – 1-0 – scorer Abs Thompson 65 mins – 1-1 – Peter Smith 76 mins – 2-1 – David Knight Watched by what must have been an all-time low travelling contingent of seven, including three officials and Alex Bentley's parents (presumably thanks to a two-hour lunchtime jam on the M2), Urchins chalked up a deserved victory over a side likely to be in the Ryman South promotion shake-up. Abs Thompson put them ahead on the half-hour from close range after a neat back-heel by David Knight led to a blocked shot by Tobi Joseph. Knight was denied his first goal for the club when his header was tipped on to a post. Ramsgate equalised on 65 minutes when Sam Mott punched out a corner and Peter Smith returned the ball with interest from the edge of the box. Urchins had an escape when Joe Taylor shot wide with the goal at his mercy and they punished the error in the 76th minute when a Thompson cross was knocked down for Knight to find the top corner with a deadly volley from 12 yards. Subs: Glover for Styles 60, Ditkevicius for May 68, Purcell for Poku 71, Rose for Knight 81, Vlad for Thompson 86. English and Lewis not used. jammyboy
Am I correct in thinking number 7 was Calvin Poku? He's a great find.
Miss.A.F.C.Hornchurch
have we signed Simon Glover yet or is he just training with us? To be honest i thought he had retired from football but if we have him then i think it will give the mid field a boost with experience and creativity! Dagger03
Annie - Simon Glover was with Maldon & Tiptree last season, and he then joined Canvey Island in January, and then Chatham Town in February. As far as I know, he has not been signed, but is playing as a trialist (as are quite a lot of the pre-season players). Calvin Poku was signed from Barkingside in June. He started with Romford (in their academy side), then played for Grays in 2010-11 (5 / 0). He played for Bowers & Pitsea in 2011 (14 / 5), and then joined Barkingside, where he was their leading scorer last season with 20 league goals. Eastside Urchin
Simon glover could be a very good signing for us at that level, plenty of experience. Not sure how old he is now but was good on the ball and if fit could no doubt so a very good job for us
cup of tea
I agree - he could be a very useful player for us if he can retain both his fitness and some of his form. Always a good player. It's not going to be an easy season but I'm feeling very positive at the moment.
