Five New Rebels!

Recommended Posts

IMO there is no doubt that Lewis Putman has the ability to make a real statement this coming season.

As we all know ability alone is not enough and whether he makes it or not will be solely down to him.

Hopefully he will want to prove some people wrong and make a real go of it this season.

It will need all 5 players to fit into the team and then provide the right service for each other, i.e. Putman needs balls feed to him for him to score and at the same time he needs to track back and help out defensively when needed.

It is a team game and preseason is key to getting that understanding and teamwork sorted, so come the first game we are a functioning unit competing from the off.

I want to see us pushing for as high up the league as possible - play offs or even promotion - and then deal with it - will put pressure on the council to pull their finger out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Realistically,Rebel1965, can't see us challenging for this season but you never know,if we can get off to good start and be in the mix come Christmas, who knows.

Second season can always be an accident waiting to happen but I believe we need to build steadily rather than think we are going to walk this division,as we are clearly not.

We have the potential to upset a few fancied sides along the way,as we proved last time but I think that it's going take time getting the unity of the squad together,as team spirit/fight doesn't just happen overnight.

Still,always worth aiming high.

I don't agree with you about Lewis Putman tracking back.Understand the notion of our forwards helping out and working by closing down players but to me Lewis is primarily on the pitch to bang in the goals.End of.

Some Slough fans seem to think every forward needs to be a Sean Sonner type. They don't.

I disagree, all players have to do a shift, we cant carry anyone, it is a team game so you need all 11 players working.

If Putman is having an off game when the goals wont come for him and he is just goal hanging, then we are down to 10, that's where he would need to contribute to make it work for others.

I would have 10 outfield players like Sonner - might be a few cards, but there would be plenty of action!!!

We're pleased to finally be able to announce 5 new signings....

Lewis Putman was superb for us for the first half of last season before he left us  :( if he had stayed with us until the end of last season i have no doubt that we would have made the play offs.

His record for us was 17 goals in 19 games (i think) on his day most defenders in our league could not get near him it was frighting at times there were so many times he won games for us.

If Lewis Putman gets his attitude right and his commitment to the game right you have a very good striker joining your club he also is a bit of a smoker but it doesnt seem to effect his game to much as his goal scoring record at most of the clubs he has been at speaks for itself. He is quick and can beat players with ease at times. I really enjoyed watching him play for us and i was gutted when he left us and he is a nice guy as well.

I really hope he settles down at Slough Town FC and scores lots of goals for you guys i will watch with interest.

Good Luck for next season and i hope the new ground happens very soon your club and supporters deserve a ground of your own.

Defence starts from the front.

No the defence starts with the defence !

Of course we all expect every player to work hard for the team. It's all very well asking strikers to track back and defend but what happens when we want to launch a quick attack and our strikers are languishing in midfield.

It's like Chris Henry, last season on a couple of occasions we expected him to track back and defend, not a natural role for him at all and a waste of his pace in attack.Had we left him upfront instead of tracking back,we would have an outlet for a chase to long pass out of our defence.

His pace to attack needs to be utilised going forward not going back defending.

...I know Chris Henry is not a striker but his effect on our attack play was evident as soon as he joined our team last season.

To me,Chris and Lewis Putman shouldn't be worrying about defending unless we're holding/protecting a lead in an important cup game or a top promotion game. They should be looking to get forward at every opportunity.I'm not saying they need to be lazy, though.

Afraid I agree with Staines Rebel, the first line of defence is attack, all that is meant from that is the forwards work hard to not allow the defenders to get out easy, and in shutting them down as quick as possible to hopefully make them play a long hopeful ball instead of a ball to feet, we are in no way saying they have to track all the way back and become defenders etc, just that they work as hard as they can to not allow the other team out to easy.

I agree with what you say here. I'm not advocating strikers not doing this sort of work but it seems alien to me to expect strikers to become defensive midfielders.

As you were a defender,Neil perhaps this is where your caution comes from and to what your team plays like. Not at all knocking the way you and Jon set out your teams.

Most of the time it's a pleasure to watch.

However,we all have ideas in how we like to see the game played.I just think I'm more attacking minded than some.
