My point was that should the event actually be allowed to take place each year

Karen - Why do you say that

I have no problem with it, but why do they need it ?

Heterosexuals do not see the need to promote the fact that they are 'straight' and proud !

Surely, homosexuality and lesbianism is ALMOST accepted in this country now.

And before you criticise my reasoning, I do have many gay friends of both sexes.

As far as I'm concerned, a persons sexuality is their concern and theirs alone.

Why do you question it?

It's a disruptive inconvenience and leaves central London looking like a tip afterwards

Eastside Urchin - I couldn't agree more

So should the Notting Hill Carnival be banned as well.

They are surely celebrating their culture just like Pride celebrates the culture of the LGBT community

Karen - It's not exactly the same thing is it

Of course it isn't !!

Gay pride basically caters for one minority section of society.

Notting Hill Carnival is for one and all.

And what is it with gay men who speak "odd" or "feminine"

Where does that come from??

Me and my sister had an argument about this last night, she lives in Brighton and has for 20 odd years so you could say experienced in the subject and many of her friends are gay,all I must say are a cracking bunch who I always have a great time with and their sexuality has no interest to me one bit,as long as I get on with someone I couldn't care less, but I've always wondered why some gay men speak in such a way,the majority would not have been talking in such a way during their younger years and it does seem that those who do,seem to be the ones who seem to be dramatic about everything and at times quite a challenge to get on with,I have a few gay mates and they speak the same as they did then they were 13/14/15/16 & 18 etc but I just find it a bit odd lol

A gay man used to go swimming at our local pool and for some reason he thought I was homophobic. One day he started going on about his love life and I told him I'm just not interested and dont want it rammed down my throat all the time. It was only when I got home I realised what I had said,Lol.

Must admit to not knowing many gay people - that's not me being homophobic, that's just the way things have worked out.

I used  to work with a guy who was gay in one of my old jobs - apart from having different sexual preferences to me I thought he was just a regular bloke and he seemed okay to me.

I'm not sure there's any harm in a procession/celebration (It's not like it's an Islamic State demonstration for example) but I agree with Big JR, is there any need for it? Attitudes have changed dramatically in this country over the years. If you looked at the way that Alan Turing was treated by the state for being homosexual after what he accomplished then it is clear that we have moved on a lot for the better.

Also, the people who are more flamboyant about it , are they doing so to be proud of being gay or are doing so because they are exhibitionists? I tend to think the latter although again I must admit to a certain amount of ignorance on this subject.

The world would be a boring place if we were all the same.

I spent the last eight years of my working life in an incredibly political correct environment where lots of gays were employed. For many of them their sexuality was the most important part of their lives and if anyone made even the slightest joke about their orientation they would almost certainly be reported and disciplined. I always felt uncomfortable in their company so I just avoided them whenever possible so it was never a problem.
