michael Posted June 13, 2015 Share Posted June 13, 2015 Whilst i want to win everything going, i can't say this is an award i would be particularly proud of. i anticipate Margate being up for a nomination here. am familiar with about half of NLS grounds-but a few new ones for me, but do anticipate Margate to be in with a chance of winning this . Of course-within 24 months it could well be that we win the coveted-best ground in NLS award ,but in interim i suspect there will be a bit of forum baiting (not massively welcome ) about HDP (it all starts gets a bit serious at this level and it is probably a case that one needs to make an off pitch impression as well ) appreciating that 'plans are afoot,and it all takes time-and its better to do nothing than get it wrong; i still hope that minimally-the majority of the plans that were approved in last november for TEPORARY improvements proceed imminently-especially the new albeit still temporary and larger dressing rooms. (amongst other things there are i believe higher standards required in national leagues so it may be the case that stuff has to be done (probably get 12 months grace ). No doubt its 'in hand'maybe ,just maybe there will be some positive sharing of the news on this aspect of the football clubs continued progression in the near future ? OK, ours might not be the must grandiose of grounds, but it could be considered a hell of a lot nicer than Concord's & Whitehawk's, to name just a couple. To be honest I'm just looking forward to meeting fans of other teams & travelling to other grounds, I don't care if we encounter any snobbery on the way. michael Posted June 13, 2015 Author Share Posted June 13, 2015 If some or all of the temporary improvements are actioned quite soon, whilst resembling a meccano kit with lots of temporary stands ,for me the ground would then be very pleasant and accommodating, but does need a little bit of investment which one hopes will be forthcoming now we have made it to NLS 36 months time we may have the best ground ? Agreed, Concordes and (especially) Whitehawks grounds aren't the best of places,but I don't think its a case of "we need to impress other teams or fans" or if you encounter snobbery. Lets face it,HDP was a better place and had character(in some peoples minds)when the old wooden stand and the Coffin End with a roof were still around .How long has it dragged on for!? Since Chris Kinnear was around! Now you've joined the big boys league,you need to up up the ante,because the likes of say Maidstone,Ebbsfleet and Chelmsford will bring big following and these wont appreciate the facilities,say on a cold,wet,windy,November evening,if theres no proper cover for them!(especially at £12 a throw). Word soon gets around and if people are put off by the thought of coming to a half built ground,(resembling a building site),then ultimately MFC will be the ones suffering,due to people not attending. With your budget(doing the rounds on the grapevine),how long will the boss man keep digging into his pocket,if you don't get the money on the gate? So he's not going to get a new stand unless he gets 1200 on a Saturday! Even when the likes of Ebbsfleet and Dover were promoted,they were averaging only around the 900 mark! And believe me,those teams have a greater following than Margate(even when Margate were in the Conference) What world is he in!? Footy fans nowadays are a fussy bunch(even non leaguers) and if they see that the ground resembles a Meccano set,word gets round and people wont come. Lets face it,I cant think of many teams with Portakabins for changing rooms. I almost get the impression that this is a shrouded excuse,probably due to either the local council still not getting behind the football club(13 years now) or that somewhere in the future,the club has plans to move. As for crowds, we averaged 700 last season. More derbies this season plus better away support in general means we should be averaging more even if the home support doesn't rise (which it will). Thanetian Since 75 Posted August 12, 2015 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Well,having seen lights nights' highlights of the game against that team from the outskirts of Brighton,I think the award should be awarded to Sh*tehawk straight away! Basically a 3 sided ground,with one end resembling a building site,how on earth does it meet the criteria needed to be a Conference ground? Hasn't changed from they were in Sussex County League!
