Tonight I am seeing...

...the band who kicked off Knebworth this Summer, yet still managed to upstage the main event!!

Gonna be superb tonight - can't wait.

Mr Thorns is also in London tonight too, seeing Inspiral Carpets on their latest comeback tour. Honestly, those guys will be doing Butlins and the Alban Arena in ten years time on the same bill as Gerry & The Pacemakers and The Searchers, but Thornsy will still not admit that when I saw them in 1991, they were pretty much at their peak!

"Over 1 million"?

Three nights - 125,000 per day. That makes 375,000 - not even half a million. Minus all the people stuck in traffic who didn't make it!!

"Ten minute set"?

30 minutes, actually.

"i don't think over 1 million [sic] people came to see a 10 minute [sic] set from the Darkness"

Well, I put "The Darkness tickets" in a search on Ebay cos I wanted to go and see them, and I got tickets for Knebworth for £10, and got Ash thrown into the deal. Bargain! No interest in the fat dancer.

Well, over 1 million?

Where the fk do you get that figure from?

There were 125,000 tickets for each gig.

So you're telling me another 208,333 people got in free each day?

Don't be ridiculous. Only Clarence Park can boast that amount of freeloading.

Seriously - I'd like to know where you got that figure from, cos it's the biggest load of rubbish I've read in ages.

"but you paid your money to Robbie"

Yes, of course, because The Darkness, Ash, Kelly Osbourne and Moby didn't get paid for appearing, did they? Nor did the promoters, nor did the organisers, nor did the stagehands, the lighting, the stewards etc.

About £1 of my tenner probably went to Robbie. He can spend that on another pie if he wants!!

The figure that i got this from is from the official DVD (don't mock it!), these are the official numbers! it broke all other records. He played to the largest audience at Knebworth.

He was originally going to do 2 nights, but becasie so many wanted to see him, he did 3 nights!

Oasis played to 250,000 in 1996, and Blobby Williams beat it in 2003 with 375,000.

And that Oasis gig was a defining moment of the nineties. A moment when Britpop reached its height. No doubt about it, it was one of the greatest gigs ever held in this country.

Zealster, enjoy The Darkness tonight. I really do envy you!

Well the Inspirals were brilliant in Liverpool, London and especially Manchester - much better than that poodle rocking novelty act!

Age is no barrier for class, I have seen many bands this year and can safely say that they have been the best by far. I'm sure they were very good in 1991 but the general opinion amoung fans and the band is that they are even better in 2003!

And Shaun Ryder coming on to do a very long ad-libbed version of Commerical Rain (along with It's only rock'n'roll and I like it and the Mondays 24hr party people thrown in as well) in the Manchester encore was pretty amazing!

Perhaps they are musically and technically better in 2003.

Fact remains I saw them both in 1991 and 2003 - I know which I preferred!!

If Inspirals had released a new album etc. this tour would be a little more meaningful. Unfortunately, it's coming across as merely a nostalgia tour - the same way that old '60s and '70s bands do their "Sensational Silver Seventies" shows at the Alban Arena.

The Darkness were superb, cheers YELLOW. The second encore when they performed the new Christmas single, with a school choir, fake snow, fireworks etc. was sheer magical!

Maybe you were just a bit more livly in 1991, I seem to remember you vanishing to watch them from the VIP area, maybe your legs can't quite hack the pace anymore
Nice bit of me and you on the DVD though!
In Manchester they covered the whole of the hall with bubbles - that was pretty cool!

Nice one!

Yeah, I'll look forward to seeing the DVD. Sure they've only got me and you on it to appeal to the younger generation of females, therefore selling more copies!!

Yes, I did go to the VIP area. Can't hack the pace at the front anymore, twats crowd-surfing over your head. I'm nearly 30, y'know!!

Musically/technically/whatever, I'd say there was very little difference in twelve years. It was just slightly more relevant in 1991.

The Sex Pistols were technically a hell of a lot better a few years back when they re-formed briefly, but don't tell me you wouldn't rather see them in 1976!!
