Squad movements

So it appears we've already signed 2 new players but won't find out until pre-season starts. Let the speculation begin who these 2 and others could be!

Not sure where you've got this info from Glen but I assume you mean 2 new players have committed not signed.

Be interesting to hear what players have been released.

As we have known from past close season movements, some players look at multiple clubs and will/might say yes to each of them. Teams have always been stung like that.

I'm happy to find out at the first friendly to see who we are looking at.

HR, I have no problem with players committing themselves to a club and then changing their minds because at the end of the day I only want players at Slough who are true to their word and want to play for Slough.

In the Slough Express interview. Ok no player is 'signed' as such unless it's a contract, what it means is has agreed to play for us.

Glen, I've looked at the on-line Express interview and I cannot see anything that says two players have committed to us for next season..

Maybe it was only published online then but I've copied it in full below for your reading pleasure (pun intended!).

Baker says Slough Town might be tempted to swoop if Magpies fly the nest

Neil Baker and Jon Underwood

Neil Baker has said that Slough Town are monitoring the situation, and potential fallout of players, at Maidenhead United this summer.

Baker, who was at The Meadow ground to watch Maidenhead United’s 4-0 win over Aylesbury United in the Berks & Bucks Cup Final on Bank Holiday Monday, has already spoken with the Magpies’ new manager Alan Devonshire and hopes the Rebels will be tipped off, if and when some Magpies fly the nest.

Devonshire is expected to rebuild the Maidenhead squad over the summer and bring in a host of new players meaning that there are likely to be many casualties from the current Magpies squad.

Having been involved in play-off matches in three of the past four seasons Baker added that it was a strange time for him and joint manager Jon Underwood. But that doesn’t mean the pair haven’t been busy with the club having already snapped up two players to join the Rebels next season.

He said their names won’t be announced until they’ve signed forms for the club at the start of July.

“With Drax leaving Maidenhead there could be some fallout from the club,” said Baker.

“We’re keeping an eye on people because they’ve got good players there.

“I’ve spoken with Alan Devonshire and asked if we can be kept in the loop.

“Whilst the players there (at Maidenhead) are good ones, they’ve still struggled this season and finished fourth from bottom, and I’m sure that’s something Alan will look at.

“There are players at Maidenhead that we would like and could better us.

“However, it’s not always as simple as that.

“It’s been different for us this year. We’ve watched a lot of the play-off games and we’re keeping an eye on a lot of players and seeing who might be available.”

The ‘cut-throat’ nature of the summer transfer market means Baker and Underwood have taken the decision not to publicise Slough’s new signings until the deals have been rubber-stamped.

“It’s very cut-throat unfortunately and we don’t want to alert other clubs to what we’re doing,” said Baker.

“We don’t know what will happen until players have signed, and even after that you can’t be 100 per cent sure they’ll sign.”

The joint managers are in the process of speaking with the current squad about their plans for next season and Baker said it’s likely that a few players will be leaving Slough in the coming weeks.

“I’m sure a few will be on their way out of the club,” he said.

“But there are also some players we like who we’ve asked to come back fitter and stronger for next season, and that’s down to them really. We should have a much bigger squad for pre-season than we’ve been used to.

“The goals against has been a big concern for us this year, but I wouldn’t say that any of our defenders have played badly. We just haven’t dealt with certain situations well. But we’ll also look to attack a lot more next season as well.”

Thanks Glen, I'll try to read things properly next time!

I would hope for a striker and Defender too......I feel we have missed a Wooz type leader at the back, we were unlucky with the guy who went to Hayes after playing against them for us last season and so I can see why we will not find out just yet

Mark44, Gary McDonald was hardly unknown to H&Y, I think he has even been an ex player of theirs.

If Gary McDonald had signed forms for us before we officially announced him do you think that would have stopped him going to them?

I would think we will be told who is staying and who is leaving.

Unfortunately it could be that social media will get there first.

As we mentioned RR we will not be making any statements until July, for either players coming or going, at which point we will thank those that have left/been released and welcome any new players (we are talking 6/7 weeks), obviously social media will give you an inkling but that is down to the individual player.

All I will say is myself and Jon have been very busy since before the season finished, and we are both delighted with what we have done to date, and are both very excited to get back for pre season!

Enjoy the summer Bakes.
