Big Weekend ahead.

This weekend sees 2 big games being played in the CCL for different reasons

Saturday 2nd May

Chessington and Hook v Alton Town  Chalky Lane 3pm K.O.

Free scoring Chessington can secure promotion to the Premier Division if they beat Alton Town this afternoon, who have not played a game for 3 weeks, and Altons form of late has seen them leak many goals. This could have repercussions for Chertsey Town as regards relegation.

Monday 4th May

Windsors, Stag Meadow (carpet) hosts the CCL Division 1 Final between Worcester Park and Bedfont and Feltham ko 3pm

This one is to close to call as both teams have had a good season in Div 1.Should be a cracking game though between 2 good footballing sides.

Well done Chessy, now what happens are Chertsey relegated ?

That depends on the FA.

It depends on which leagues they put Redhill and AFC Hayes into, it depends on whether or not they move AFC Croydon into the Southern Counties East League and it depends if they're going to move anyone into our league from another league.

Until they have their big meeting I doubt even the FA know what's going to happen, although I suspect they have an idea.

Has any Division 1 side in the history of the CCL League ever won promotion, then been transferred to another League the following season?

I don't think it's happened in any league that has divisions at steps 5 and 6.

Mind you, all this shuffling around at our level is a fairly new thing.

The FA said they would write to clubs who may be affected by changes at the end of April. Has anyone in the league been told they may be moved or do the FA insist on no public comment on these things until a certain date.

The Windsor manager says he's not certain which league they'll be playing in next year although he'd prefer the CCL.

I would be surprised if the FA would contact any club prior to the Leagues Committee meeting once all the promotion/play-off issues are sorted this weekend. If they do the same as the last couple of years I suspect they will meet later this week.

I assume you haven't been contacted then...

I think they added the clause about contacting affected clubs and leagues last season after that stuff involving Crowborough and Rye. This message was in the CCL bulletin a couple of times in March:

"IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

LATERAL MOVEMENTS - This is a reminder that it may be necessary at the end of the current Season to consider the lateral movement of clubs between leagues/divisions at the various Steps within the National League System. We are still unable to be more specific at this stage, this is merely to remind you that this could occur. We would remind you that provision for lateral movement is included in the current Regulations for the Operation of the National League System.

We will continue to monitor the current league tables and we hope to be in a position to contact specific clubs towards the end of the Season, although we appreciate that the situation could still change due to promotion and relegation matters.”

I was in contact with the chairman from another league today on another matter and he mentioned that he was once on his way to that league's AGM when he got a call from the FA saying they were adding another team to their constitution. I'd hope those days are gone.

Yes, I was aware of that. However, it is only because of promotions and relegations from steps 4/5 that there would really be any need to make lateral movements in our area. I think in these circumstances it would be rather odd to make any precipitative decisions prior to the end of the season... perhaps poor drafting.

And no, we have not been contacted. I suppose my point is that I would not read anything into this and we will still have to wait and see. It does add a little uncertainty when you are the most easterly CCL team particularly when you are in a situation when you arranging friendlies and not sure what division you are in.

One more thing, congratulations to Chessington & Hook for securing 3rd place. A few weeks ago I really wouldn't have thought it possible to put together such a good run when they had so many games to play in such a short period of time.

It's not poor drafting, although I know the FA are experts at that.

The rules regarding lateral movements were re-written this year. They now say:

"In or about early April each year the LC (Leagues Committee) will consider whether any lateral movements may be necessary at each Step; if so the Clubs likely to be affected shall be notified and given the opportunity to present a case if that Club does not wish to be moved laterally."

If I were you I'd contact Mike Appleby at the FA as the uncertainty isn't doing anyone any favours and, as you say, it can impact on friendlies.
