I've always wondered, because I can't make midweek games usually, what kind of crowd do we get for home reserve games? And do any fans travel to away games?

We need to get more people along to reserve games because at the moment, I can't imagine it's worth having a reserve sides against the cost involved. As nobody is really turning up, the costs of hosting the match aren't even anywhere near covered, hence the valiant attempts by myself on occasion and Chris to try and get people along.

 

Do we, as supporters, really want a reserve side?

its a good point made about do we really want a reserve side? In most cases I would say yes it would be good to have a reserve side, but we don`t use our reserves properly, how many players have played in our reserves and then made it into our first team. This striker Seedel? or whatever his name is hasn`t been given a chance yet. Our reserve team mainly consists of first team players just so we can field 11 players, which then in turn increases the chances of them getting injured like Deaner did i believe recently. So I would say no I don`t want a reserve team. We havent had a decent reserve team and put it to good use since the days of the conference when we had Lloyd Owusu, Matt Stowell, and a good few other youngsters that pushed others for places.

actually talking of the reserves from the conference era what was the name of our striker that was top scorer in the reserves and hardly played in the full team, but was older than most of the players anyway, was it Dave someone?!

I think that is how everyone would best like to see the reserve team utilised through finding young local talent and bringing it through the reserve side to potentially break into the first team.

 

Matches like tonight though are valuable for first team players to keep sharp, return from injury and test out some 'fresh blood'.

 

Catch is though, if nobody turns out and pays at reserve matches, can the club afford to run the side and bring through the youth players? Essentially, the more people that turn up and pay on the gate, the more money is freed up to increase the playing budget?

 

BTW, season ticket holders get in for free tonight and at all reserve games.

so why don`t we start up a youth side rather than a reserve side as you are more likely to find local talent at youth level rather than reserve level. Surely that would be beneficial all round

Who runs it? Who finances it? It's a great idea, and it could be run in the Allied Counties league which Roy is linked with, it's just finding someone to do it and linking it into the club.

I was suggesting it as an alternative to a reserve side, If we can run a reserve side, surely it is cheaper to run a youth side? And although sponsorship is hard to come by and I know how hard you worked to get coldseal on board, surely people will be willing to sponsor something that would (i guess) benefit the community.

And who actually is our reserve manager? Troy Townsend left last season.

Eddie has been running the reserve side this season. As for youth team sponsorship, if it benefits the community, why not get a Slough based sponsor involved? There's a task for you Anonymous!

Gary I'm definitely for having a reserve side, but the truth is, few people care about watching reserve team football when the matches aren't important. I like the sound of having a youth team but that would take a lot of investment, and can Slough Town sustain three teams? I doubt it, especially as out crowds have dipped below 300 this season after the move.
