v Dunstable

Recommended Posts

The wind was a huge influence in the game as both teams couldn't handle playing with the wind. First half Dunstable played on the grass and thru are defense while Slough played balls over the top trying to use the wind but to no avail.

2nd half Dunstable try to use long balls using the wind which didn't work and Slough played it on the ground and scored 3 goals.

Two things to me which stand out, 1 Adam Martin is a better player the further up the pitch he is , don't play him as the holding midfielder but the attacking one, 2 Slough play better when they play football on the grass and keep possession in the final 3rd not with continual long balls up the middle . We are much better when we pass the ball around but at times we seem to lack the confidence to do this for 90 mins.

Adam has never played in a defensive role for us Ade... He is always one that will look to get around the pitch.

Sorry Bakes if that's the case but that's how it seems on the pitch, especially today in the 1st half, Ben seemed to be further forward than Adam with Adam picking the ball up quite deep.

2nd half we looked as tho we were aiming all long throws and goal kicks to Adam and he had more influence in the final 3rd.

Nope Ben is always someone that tends to sit however the game dictates how you play and where you find yourself on the pitch.

But you are right he was dominant in the air today especially of Luke's kicks which were top drawer again, and when someone is winning things you will tend to find that person more often than not, same goes that if you have a winger that has the beating of his full back, you will get the ball to him as much as you can.

Neil, how is Dan? Saw he went to hospital!

Superb comeback. Eds goal was superbly taken and Adam martins was a great hit. We destroyed them down the left 2nd half Henry and parsons were unplayable at times. We actually dominated until they scored and imho they were only on top for 15-20 minutes of the game.

Da da da da da dada da da da da da da dada gok man. Played very well.

Felt Chris was better 2nd half when he moved wider. Adam martin was great everywhere today, and would be my captain (on and off pitch) leads by example and pulls the strings.

Another cracking show and comeback by the Rebels on a bitter windy day.

Feel sorry for Dan Read his stay with us so far has been eventful but Gogem came on and took his chance

to the max with a goal to boot.

Eddie unlucky not to score before they scored there first when they got the second Manor Rebel said I don.t know why I come to

to these end of the season games he has changed his mind and wants to see the remaining fixtures.

A real turkish delight of a game.

Even when we do turn it around the defence gets stick. When we were in a goal drought it was still their fault we did not win. Have they been protected by the midfield all season have we created enough? I fear our defenders may be currently making noises for other clubs either this level or below following the weekly bashing they all receive.

I hope the Slough budget can extend to bringing in the replacements we all desire. I am not sure it can if the rumours that abound in respect of some clubs are true.

Great day unless you are a defender

COYR.

We conceed too many soft goals and can't always rely on our attacking players knocking in 3 or 4 a game to save us, it's just a fact. May be tactics, may be players but we always look vulnerable at some point in a game, and when we conceed it's usually in pairs quickly or worse

As he showed at Hungerford Matt Day is the type of player no nonsence defender we need apart from his play he did not stop shouting encourageing and organising his team from back to front from the first to last minute.

Definitely saw a mirror image of Hitchin game on the cards at 2 nil (goals coming after initial good start by us). Agree we look vulnerable defensively and have done on many occasions this season e.g. Redditch twice! The second half half domination was unexpected and we fully merited the win as a result.

Adam Martin was immense, but well played to all. Gurkan Gokmen had a very handy game after substituting the unfortunate Dan Read.

Finally, ground upgrades were taking place at Dunstable - it's the rules, but necessary for regular crowds of 100+ or !50+ when Slough visit? If Aylesbury (Vale) come up they'll have their work cut out to upgrade!

Hopefully he's still with us next year if he's on loan

Just so you know he is not really on loan from Wealdstone (he was just dual signed), he went to train with them briefly after returning to the UK from Turkey, and he was recommended to us by Gordon as he would not get into their team as it stood, he was due to be involved with us last weekend however he had a chest infection which meant he was not available either.

Good start from us and should have been one up from Ed Smith's chip onto the roof of the net.

Again two soft goals conceded and not necessarily all the fault of our defence. I do think at times our midfield could give our defence more protection.

Great strike from Adam Martin to get us back into the game.

Second half we got on top of the Dunnies with good all round play from all areas of the pitch topped of with goals from Jeffers, Gurkan and Ed Smith.

Got to feel sorry for Dan Read, I think it's three starts he's made for us and twice he's had to come off after a few minutes topped off with his car breaking down on another occasion.

My MOTM was Adam Martin who I thought had an excellent all round game capped off with a superb strike.

At half time I was hoping for a 3-1 defeat as I had Adam Martin as our scorer, then we go and spoil it all by having a brilliant second half, Adam I feel was MOTM but what a supporting cast, young Gokman came off the bench to run them ragged (and score), Chris also was turning them inside out, Guy's long throw's were causing them problems, great goal's by Billy and Ed, I would have been happy if the game had lasted till midnight, all I want now is a game like that at Dorchester and some nice weather that week end.

And there was me thinking it was going to be a boring, end of season, 0-0 draw

This was definitely a game of 2 halves. For the first 30 minutes we were hopeless: we couldn't string 2 passes together whereas the defence were often undone by simple passes meaning we found ourselves 2 goals down. We got a goal back and grew in confidence, and for the second half we dominated with Dunstable not looking like scoring. Good to see we've learnt from the Hitchin capitulation!

Great goals from Adam Martin and Ed Smith, however for me MOTM was Chris Henry, as he caused all the problems and made everything happen down the left: really hope we manage to keep him over the summer!
