Bedfont FC 4 Enfield Town FC 1

Recommended Posts

BE AWARE, BE VERY AWARE. Big Boy Bubs is NOT very happy about the officals last night. One linesman was a fruitbat look a like, as for the referee, i'd rather had Andy D'urso. The fat boy on the line couldn't keep up with play, and the other lino needs to consult a rule for the rules of offside. I'm still foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog at the moment. If we get any of these officals for the Hampton & Richmond Charity cup tie, i will put in a offical complaint myself.

All praise to the team last night, that we lost on poor officaldom.

RIGHT !!!.......Here's the definative account of the game for all you that couldn't make it...(and before 'sour grapes' is spouted remember the universal praise we afforded to Romford when they beat us 'fair and square'.

Here goes:....Even though Town were looking comfortable first-half... Bedfont were afforded the honour of 'off-side immunity'...Which meant even though Town played a well disiplined offside-trap,Bedfont's two lively forwards were allowed to run clean through on goal on 7(seven) occasions whilst being embarrassingly off-side.The fact that they ranged from being 3-15 yards off, each time didn't seem to register with the extremly out-of-shape (excuse for a) linesman.

Bedfonts second free run on goal resulted in the penalty which they scored from...I obviously don't need to explain how their second goal in the half came about.

Now onto the ref: even though thoughout the game Town players were on the receiving end of (in no particular order) a 'head-butt'/'punch to the face'/'kararte-style elbow to the throat'....the ref only felt it neccessary to produce red cards when the Town players and management dared question the ability of the linesman.

Second half and down to 10 men ,Town came out firing and scored from a penalty(so blatent they even Alex Ferguson would have accepted the discision) 1-2.

The game was effectivly finished when Bedfont(surprisingly)beat the off-side trap and lobbed the ball into the net for 3-1.

Heads inevitably dropped,as the players finally realised they were on the end of a stitch-up job...Bedfonts last goal was the iceing on the cake....Enter lino No2.

senario....2 bedfont players running through on goal with a Town defender chasing 10 yards behind.....player with ball rounds our (reserve) keeper and proceeds to lay the ball forwards to Bedfonts second player(who has at this stage run passed everyone)who scores.

Easy desicion i hear you cry....It was played forward to a player who was in front of the last defender AND the keeper.YOU GUESSED IT 4-1.

I've seen some appauling refereeing displays in the last 20 years(Morton,D'Urso,...ect.)

But never have i seen such collective incompetence as i witneesed by all THREE officals last night

P.S ..I think the game showed that we should only use Christofi when absolutely nesseccary, and that Simon Miller isn't really up to the job.

Whilst I might dispute some of the comments.

From my vantage point at the side of the pitch that town were attacking I could not tell if players were or were not offside for the two goals in the first half and I challenge anybody who was standing behind the Bedfont goal to determine the lino was wrong on those two occasions.

I thought that Cooper got a penalty from a good stumble on a good challenge. However he should, legitimately, have been awarded a penalty for an attack where he was fouled, not badly, some ten minutes later.

If the elbow to the throat is referring to the situation when number 12 got a yellow card. A free kick was awarded and a yellow card given both reasonable decisions. Number 12 had only just come on the pitch and it could have just been a clumsy tackle.

Cooper complained about a late tackle in the first half when he got a kick from the number 6. (I did not hear a racist comment there did I Ian) "You nog!" I think it was. The tackle was late the ball had already gone off. Give the number 6 the benefit of the doubt it was clumsy nothing else. What else should have been given.

Brad said he was sent off for swearing but denied he swore. Did he call the ref a cheat?

HOWEVER we come to the fourth goal which has to be the worst decision I have seen on the football pitch. EVER.

"senario....2 bedfont players running through on goal with a Town defender chasing 10 yards behind.....player with ball rounds our (reserve) keeper and proceeds to lay the ball forwards to Bedfonts second player(who has at this stage run passed everyone)who scores." Is as accurate description of the scenario as I saw it. The player who scored was OFFSIDE. And so far OFFSIDE that it was untrue. There was no doubt. If Jim got sent off after that decision his red card should immediately be rescinded and the lino be asked just what game he was looking at or was he studying airplanes at the time.

BTW the same lino missed at least two offside decisions in the first half against Cooper. I was standing on the same side of the pitch and had a clear view.

All in all we deserved to loose as we did not take the chances that were available in the first half. We should have gone in on level terms still C'est la vie.

I also agree with the PS. Christofi comes off his line very quickly without actually getting the ball. His confidence seemed to be gone at the finish. Perhaps he thinks it reasonable that he should have had some kind of defence.

Millar started well against Romford but ................ I dont know he obviously has skill but he does not get the ball enough to demonstrate it.

I was in the stand in the first half and Bedfont were offside on several occasions including when the second goal was scored without doubt. The fat linesman couldn't keep up with play and, in terms of the decisions they made, they were as bad as each other. The worst linesman I have ever seen!

Steph...Maybe you should bring your famous 'step-ladder' next time and you might see the game as everyone else saw it.

1.How can you say Coopers penalty was a 'good' challenge...The defenders lunge got nowhere near the ball and Cooper was clearly brought down by his leg(a touch theatrical in his fall)but still a stonewall penalty.

2. Yes the No12 had just came off the bench and yes it may have just been clumsy....But it looked like 'violent conduct' to me,and i believe he should have walked.

3.No6's kick on Cooper happened right under my nose...I was no more than 3 feet away ,and i didn't hear him say anything racist....maybe he did ,maybe he didn't.....why not give HIM the benifit of the doubt,as you seem so willing to offer the rival players.

4. If every player got sent off for swearing on a football field, most games would have to be adandoned after 10 minutes through lack of players left on the pitch.......The ref was petty and arrogant, caring more about he own precious sensitivities that stamping down on dangerous conduct.

5. Did he call the ref a cheat?....couldn't hear

from where we were standing.BUT I CERTAINLY DID.

6. Totally agree about you agreeing with me about the last goal.

As everybody else has said, the officials were dreadful. The referee was hopeless and I thought the rotund linesman taking the ET attack in the first half was one of the most incompetent I've ever seen. He just couldn't get anywhere near play - to be fair, I don't recall him flagging for a single offside in the whole game - it's not often that happens, Ian, is it?

I thought the other linesman had a reasoable first half, though he certainly did seem to take against Ian Cooper and offered him no protection - I think Ian's used to that though and I certainly didn't hear him come out with a rascist comment. Think you may have misheard there, Steph, as I was also close to the incident. That linesman's second half performance was diabolical - I think he was trying to find a way to outdo the other lino! That having been said, any decent referee should have been able to spot numerous obvious offside decisions and overrule the linos who seemed to have left their flags at home.

It was a frustrating night all round - but entertaining all the same and much of that has to be down to Cooperman. He kept us in the game simply because his running was tireless and he frightened the life out of Bedfont's defenders. The foul already referred to - the elbow to the throat - was cynical and deserved red no matter how long he'd been on the pitch, as did the forearm smash on Adam Gant in the first half. Graeme Hall's committment and battling qualities in difficult circumstances were also a plus last night.

Bedfont's nos 8 and 11 got away with so many fouls, and abuses of the referee, it was untrue. Ironically given some of the comments above I think it was Bedfont's nippy little No 6 that was their best player - I think his kick out at Ian was probably frustration at the way Ian kept taking the ball past their defenders. He reminded me of Darren Annon because he harried our midfield all over the place.

It was a shame to see Brad Brotherton sent off because he's worked hard on his discipline this year. I've no idea whether he swore at the ref but if that was the reason the ref could probably have sent 22 players off last night! I think Brad was protesting one of the ridiculous offside decisions at the time and was clearly very frustrated that an injustice had been done when he came off.

One of those nights to put down to experience, lads - much like my other team in the Carling Cup tonight!

A quote from Jim in this weeks Gazette: 'The referee's assessor said he would report the officials because of their performance'.

I was standing next to the Referee's Assessor and he was not at all impressed!

He said all 3 officials would be up in front of the Committee next Wednesday. He didn't agree with Brad Brotherton's sending off so hopefully Brad can appeal and have it quashed, in fact he didn't agree with 95% of the decisions given either way.

He was there as the assess the Ref as he had been having some very bad reports about him, he now knows why.

At the end of the day ETFC didn't play well so there is no excuse for us being knocked out, but the men in black didn't help the situation.

I remember reacting like this last season after we lost to Southend Manor. My comments effectivley created the introduction of "Mean it Mick"

Will Bedfont have a similar charecter?

So Mean it Mick is your fault? So are you the original MUG and we're just the fakes?
