Saints v Crawley (replay)

Recommended Posts

Hi M&S.

Season over? I don't think so. We have to develop a slightly longer game. Build for the future etc.

So for the 96th consecutive year we have not won the F.A. Cup and our name is not on the F.A. Trophy. We must be considered to be outsiders for the League title at this stage, but that isn't all of it, surely?

On the pitch, circumstances have given us the opportunity to "have a look at" Greg Deacon, Chris Seeby, Matt Jones, Danny Cross, Jay Murray, two young keepers, Tony Perfect [gone] and others.

We have to climb to the upper reaches of the Premier Division between now and next May, of course, but also, we must take the opportunity to build for the future off the green bit as well as on it. That's vital.

Look back to last season. We were top of the League for a long spell, playing poor football and we finished 5th. In my view, that papered over the cracks in many ways, and laid the foundations for where we are today. That's in the past. Onward and upward.

Positive thought and co-operation, M&S. It can work wonders and if not mountains, it can move training nets from beside the pitch on match days.

Hi M&S.

Left back for the last two matches was Matt Jones from The Reserves who will be generally pleased with his contribution. Unfortunately he went off with an elbow/arm/wrist injury [one of those, not all three] late in the first half.

Corey can play left-back, of course, although he, too, went off injured in the first half with a broken nose. [Rugby players spit on their sleeve, wipe the blood off, and get on with the game, but footballers are a different breed.]

Murray has played well at left back for the past couple of months but he wasn't available last night.

Me? I just use the left foot to stand on but I would help out if we're really short.

As AFF indicates we have cover at left back. The reason we got turned over last night, & although we could have won, with better finishing they could have scored six, is that once again our midfield kept giving the ball away. I'm afraid we have no one who is good enough - week in week out in midfield. Some are promising, some are past it; we need some quality now. We must be realistic, if our midfield carries on as at present and we cannot score goals we could be RELEGATED. An awful thought but a possibility that must be faced.

Last night to put a realistic view on it I think the corner count in the first 90 minutes was something like 25 - 1.

Nice ground but a steward every 20yrds is a bit OTT

Well obviously not as 2 drunk St Alban's fans initially tried to start a fight with 2 Crawley fans and then started beating each other up, and were chucked out for it!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard it was a play fight and the stewards overeacted.
Shame they weren't so quick to lob out the Crawley fans who enjoyed rubbing in the goals against while standing in our end!

Even if it was they were drunk and were going to do some harm to someone!!

I didn't know that there was segregation at last night's match!!?

I've spoken to one of those involved today and he tells me it was just play fighting and he that he wouldn't say they were drunk, just a little merry after a few beers in the bar.

He felt the stewards were looking for trouble and therefore picked on a couple of isolated City fans.

Oh come on!! The bloke in the white jacket pinned him up against the wall and then the steward came and broke it up, he weren't looking for a fight!!

There is no 'our end' as they wasn't any segregation!! Supporters can stand where they like!!
