HORNCHURCH  1  HARROW BOROUGH  3

For the fourth match in succession there was an early goal, but this time it was in Hornchurch’s favour. Courtney Homans was brought down as he ran through, and George Purcell fired home the free kick from thirty yards, over the wall and into the top corner of the net.

For a time it looked promising – Purcell sent in a long range shot which went close but wide of the post, and Kieran Bishop ran on to a poor back pass, only to be narrowly beaten to the ball by keeper Nick Jupp.

Harrow then began to come more into the game, and Sam Mott made two excellent saves, firstly tipping over a goal-bound shot from Spencer McCall, and then diving to turn a hard drive from Ryan Hope around the post.

Harrow continued to apply pressure, playing into the strong wind, though it was Hornchurch who came close to increasing the score when Bishop moved onto a Purcell pass, with Jupp turning his shot around the post for a corner.

Shortly before half time, Frankie Curley conceded a free kick midway inside his own half with a badly timed tackle on Kameron English, but Mott was ideally placed to catch the ball when Ryan Hope floated it into a packed goalmouth.

There was another early goal in the second half but this time it was for the visitors, who worked the ball out to the left wing where Kameron English moved rapidly in towards goal and fired the ball low past Mott to level the score.

Hornchurch thought they had regained the lead three minutes later when Junior Luke’s free kick was headed home by Elliot Styles, only for the referee to decide there had been a foul on the goalkeeper, a decision which did not impress the home players or the crowd.

Harrow began to dominate the midfield and Hornchurch could rarely penetrate their defence, and the visitors took full advantage of a mistake by Billy Roast, which allowed Lewis Driver to glide the ball past Mott to give them the lead.

Martin Tuohy replaced Homans and Hornchurch came back strongly, with Purcell firing a hard free kick into the defensive wall. Another Purcell free kick beat the wall, but the ball was cleared off the line.

A shot from Kieran Bishop, from a Purcell pass, was deflected for a corner, and a Tuohy centre found Danny Johnson, whose header was saved by Jupp.

Hornchurch were forced to press forward, leaving themselves open at the back, and in the final few seconds of stoppage time a miskick by Elliot Styles allowed Marc Charles-Smith to run through and make the result safe.
