End of season walk

Its almost that time of year again, I can't believe how quickly it comes around.

This year, as you all know, the last away game is to Dorchester.  Thats about 110 miles again, similar to the Sutton Coldfield expedition.

There are only two of us walking - unless anyone else wants to volunteer.  We will set off early in the week , hopefully not having to take a detour to Banbury on the way.

The charity we have chosen this year is PALS which was formerly SADSAD.  But we will be raising money for a specific project which is quite meaningful to us this year.

We wanted to do something that could be connected to David but was small and local too.

On Tuesday we were proud to welcome the newest Slough Town team to the game.  We have worked in partnership with PALS to create a Pan disability football team who will compete locally in the BOBi League.  This is an adult team made up of young people with a range of disabilities including Autism, Downs Syndrome and some physical disabilities.  This team now exists and starts their competitive season on Sunday.

WIthin the PALS organisation there are a number of children who would love to be able to play football competitively, so in order to help PALS to be able to make this a reality, 50% of the proceeds of the walk will go to this project.

To our minds this ticks all of our boxes, small organisation, local, helping children with disabilities and something that I am sure David would approve of wholeheartedly.

The other 50% will go to the Trust.

Given that there are only two of us walking, we need everyone's help in raising sponsorship money.  Both Radders and I will have sponsor forms, Alan Harding will  hold a team one and the Manager of the current Slough Town PALS team is going to try to raise us some sponsorship, but please if you can take one and generate any support for us please do, Alan Harding will have forms available shortly.

Mike Pearcy is going to do some PR for us so hopefully that will generate some interest outside of the usual circle.

We may also be asking for some volunteers to help ferry us back and forth in the first couple of days to keep the accomodation costs as low as possible.

We always try to pick charities close to someone within the Club's heart.  This year I am really proud to be doing it for a group that I know David would appreciate.

Great stuff all round. Disappointed to not be able to join you this year, I do like the long ones.

Still you'll both be getting something from me, hopefully catch you at a game soon..........

Don't be fooled, everyone. 110 miles it may be but on every other walk when I've phoned Kay her response has been "we're almost at the pub", "we've just got to the pub" or "we've just left the pub"!! Some excuse about girls needing the toilet or something! :-)

Thanks Dan.  Paul Ch - hope that helps.

Thanks you to everyone who sponsored me today, We will both be around at the next couple of games, so if I missed you today I will happily take your money at Dunstable or at the Frome game or you can donate on line - see above post.

  • 4 weeks later...

Kay as I won't see you until next season I've just paid £30 via PayPal on the Trust website as sponsorship for your walk from myself and mum. I'm pretty sure my Dad would have done the walk too had he been around!
