PDC WORLD DART CHAMPIONSHIPS

Recommended Posts

starts soon, it's a really good atmosphere down at the Tavern if you've not been when it's on, which makes a change from any normal Saturday night there the rest of the year!

Don't think there's any tickets left past the 1/4 stage but maybe a few left for the earlier rounds.

Good Luck Phil, The Greatest Ever Living Sportsman!

The PDC (16 players originally) broke away in the early 90's because they wanted to change the way darts was run, the BDO didn't like them doing this & it went to court, the PDC were then known as the WDC but when they went to court against the BDO (Embassy) it ended in arbitration and one of the agreements was that the 16 breakaway players couldn't use the word "World" in their name.

Now both organisations are recognised but make your mind up whose best, obviously PDC (Phil's Darts Club) as the overated and BDO representative Bobby George calls it.

I haven`t been for the last two years nige, but used to go to the semi final night. Got to agree had some blinding nights. One night springs to mind when Eric the crafty cockney Bristow was playing, I think against phil, not 100% tho. The whole place was singing "There`s only one Eric Bristow". The noise & atmosphere was unreal. Just a pity he got beat, but what a game....

I'm even more confused now. I used to enjoy the sport when there was the one controlling body and you saw the likes of the great Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Jocky Wilson etc... however, it appears that like boxing, the fragmentation has taken away some of the sparkle. By having two 'world championships' we just don't find out who the best is! Oh well, anyone who goes, enjoy yourselves and may the best man win

Mr Happy,

The Power is the Best, his averages prove that just for starters, Phil is acknowledged as the best darts player by players from both organisations even though some might not say that out loud.

Phil averages higher than any player that has ever played although the Tunsten darts they use today, make scoring easier as oppose to the old brass darts in the 80's.

I've been going for a number of years now, not quite as good as it used to be, but still a good laugh. 1st year I went see Bristow turn over Cowboy Bob Anderson, backed him at 11/4. Me and the lads were on the telly throughout the night, and boy did we celebrate when Eric won!! A rendition of Eric's coming home!! I seem to remember. It was the year he lost the epic semi final to the Power. The players are happy to have a beer with you win or lose. I reckon Phil will come out firing big time this year to reclaim HIS title, Part will again provide the sternest oppo.

Taylor is well up for this one, didn't like losing his crown last year. Part will probably meet him in the final again. I'd like to see Wayne Mardle have a decent run this year too. He's a local lad from Dagenham, so should have a fair bit of support behind him. Assuming he gets a decent draw, I'd have thought he's good enough to get to the semi's.
