This time it was in the fourth minute, when Zac Attwood took advantage of a defensive lapse to open the score. Hornchurch struggled to contain the home forwards but on fifteen minutes Thomas Gogo worked the ball through to George Purcell, whose shot was deflected for a corner. Gogo took the corner and the ball was immediately played up the field, and then across to Freddie Ladapo, who ran on to score. Danny Woodards, making his debut, fired in a long range shot which went wide of the post, and Purcell combined well with Kieran Bishop to win a corner, but the third goal arrived soon after, when Callum Chafer could only parry a shot from Attwood and Ben Gerring followed up to score. The rest of the half was an exercise in damage limitation as the home side swarmed forward, and Tambeson Eyong made it four nil with an unchallenged solo run followed by a shot from a narrow angle. It was almost five when a shot hit the post and was cleared, and Chafer made a good save from Attwood, whilst at the other end, in a rare attack, Woodards went close. If the first half was somewhat one sided the second half was much more encouraging from a Hornchurch perspective. Courtney Homans replaced Gogo at the interval, and played at right back, with Billy Coyne moving to left back and Chris Bourne playing more on the left wing. The new formation worked much better and it was Margate who was forced to defend. Bishop made a good run but put his shot narrowly wide, whilst at the other end Chafer made a good diving save from a header. It was Hornchurch who were now coming forward, and when Purcell was brought down almost on the goal line a penalty seemed a certainty, but the referee allowed play to continue, and Bishop followed up only to hit his shot against the bar and over. Hornchurch pulled a goal back a minute later when Bourne sent the ball through to Kieran Bishop, who ran forward, shrugged off a challenge, and neatly glided the ball home. As Hornchurch continued to force the pace, Bourne ran on to a pass from Bishop, who had opened up the defence, and his shot rose over the bar. Bull then save well from Bourne, tipping the ball around for a corner, from which Elliot Styles headed wide. When Hornchurch were awarded a free kick just outside the area, it was Billy Coyne who stepped up, but his shot went wide of the post. Chafer made two excellent saves at the other end as Margate broke clear, but the final goal came in the last few seconds of stoppage time when a Billy Roast slip allowed Zac Attwood to run on and glide the ball wide of Chafer.
