Not so sure of that Weeble, Guildford city's average age is about 17 (they are 3/4s their southern youth league side) and they've gone from 10 points adrift to up with the rest of the pack.

A better statement might be 'it's harder to win stuff with youth' !

Luke - most of their players DON'T play for their youth team, in fact there are only a few. I believe the majority of the younger players actually play for Met Police youth treat. Of the starting 11 on Weds, to my knowledge only 3 had come through City's youth team - McPhail, Pillay and Collins maybe? I stand to be corrected though.

In fact I know that players in City's youth team have been moaning about not being given a chance and players being brought in from elsewhere.

Also, just to pick one more hole, their average age the other night was more than 17. More like 20.

Should be a good game on Saturday as Epsom travel to Guildford both holding four game winning runs.

And while we're on the subject, how well are almost everyone doing at the bottom right now. If I were Mole Valley and Bedfont Sports I would be very concerned as there is no way 39 points will be enough to stay out of the bottom three at this rate.

Normally you would think that you would need above a point per game to stay up which would mean 41 this year, but the way all the teams at the bottom are playing right now it could be as much as 44-45 and so there is still a bit of work required for the two teams I mentioned above.

Fair point regarding won't win with youth what I meant was if you filled a team at CCL level with 16 and 17 year olds they would not win as many as they lost and could get smashed to pieces

Molesey 4 v 2 Hanworth Villa, Southern Combination Cup.The games are certainly mounting up for the Moles, will it become their Achilles Heal ?

Played a lot of reserve/fringe players last night and they all did really well. So, with games coming up it was good to see that we have some depth, as they had to put in a performance to get the result. Without this game we may not have learned as much about them. If we do not ultimately win the league, you will not see me moaning about (a) too many games and (B) Camberley's style of play, as neither is an issue as far as I am concerned.

You are right there Rich, can see it going to the wire. How about Phil Page returning to Mole Valley on dual registration, and in there last game they need a draw against Guildford for both teams to survive the drop, what odds a repeat of last seasons nailbiter?

Odds say Bedfont will just do enough, that is if Darryl Sanders plays in every game.

With DFC being exiled for a couple of seasons, I like to keep my finger on the pulse, especially with the Ladies.

Its Lukes way of trying to say he is right and we are all wrong,he is hell bent on proving his belief that kids are better than men,my opinion is you need a healthy mix of youth and experience.

Ha fair play but Guildford youth or Met police youth they are still youth players. Average age of 20 is still very young tbf!

Duncs we agree more than U know without U knowing it. A healthy mix is 100% the way forward. An average age of mid twenties with a few youngsters coming through and a

Few older heads would be perfect. I simply made a sweeping statement to negate the sweeping statement made prior. Half way is perfect!

How many youth players are in the team at your club Luke, why are you worrying about other clubs, some managers will play the kids and some won't its purely up to them,if they are good enough they are old enough. :smashfreakb:

The fretfulness over youth is mostly and English/British thing, generally, that people from other nations ( often from countries whose national teams win things) find odd. Yes, it's tougher than age governed football, but it is supposed to be.

I'm not worrying about any other club Duncs, there was a conversation and I was stupid enough to reply lol. Not saying what should or shouldn't be done, i just said well done to Guildford and pointed out they are doing well with a very young side. Will that always work for every team? No, of course not but well done to them!

I guess your talking about Mole valley re how many youth players, we have none in our squad at all, our oldest age group is under 15s!

I will further explain myself by youth I mean the infatuation to play 16 17 and 18 year old youth team players and have no one else involved

18-20 year olds should be pushing 1st team or

If there is a capital league side play in that

20-22 if you are not in the first team and you are not in the managers plans it is time to move on

Agree a mix is perfect

My opinion only however and I respect all other views on this issue

Very emotive subject
