No Coach to Margate (Tues 24th)

Recommended Posts

Please be advised that there is no coach to the weekday game at Margate on Tuesday 24th.

This is due to the lack of funds at Hornchurch where we cannot afford to pay twice for a coach which was wasted on the day of the farcial called off game.

This is also down to Margate FC refusing to reemburse Hornchurch the money for the coach (£500+) yet they can still go and buy new players!!

I apologise for being so honest, but feel that the true supporters at Hornchurch deserve to know the truth why they will not be able to get to this game. I refuse to lie to my friends!

Unfortunately the players and officals will now have to make their own way etc for what would normally be a well attended game by both clubs!

Its a real shame tbh as margate arnt short of cash. Football is run like a business now which makes me annoyed.

Not exactly Margate FC fault thought was it? I seem to remember our supporters and players travelling all the way to Leiston only for the game to be called off 10 minutes before kick off. We were never reimbursed!

Shame to try and make us out to be the bad guys here

The reason behind non reimbursement in both cases is because there is nothing in the Ryman rules to say we should reimburse.

Only mentions reimbursement of refs fee and his travelling expenses.

No apology required though Annie, you think what you like.

This is what I wrote at the time - you can draw your own conclusions -

There was a pitch inspection at 9.30 am and the message posted on the Margate web site reads -

Early pitch inspection passed subject to continuing works on pitch..

I do not know what these 'continuing works' referred to.

When we got there at 1.45, the pitch looked in poor condition, with a very muddy goalmouth and large sanded areas over the rest of the pitch.

The match officials arrived at 1.30 and they carried out a pitch inspection almost immediately. They made a very thorough inspection, lasting over 15 minutes, and it was very obvious that the ball would not bounce on certain parts of the playing surface, and that the match was very much in doubt.

I spoke to several of the HFC players and officials after the postponement and all of them were in agreement that the pitch was not suitable.

In fact it was in worst condition than the pitch at Redbridge.

I am somewhat surprised that the pitch passed the original inspection, (as they had several hours of overnight rain), but once this was done, there was nothing Margate could do until the match officials arrived.

My own thoughts are that the match should have been postponed earlier than it was, but if a local referee passes it as fit, and if there is no more rain in the interim, there was little that Margate could do.

I would add that Margate did give out free food to the travelling supporters who were in the bar prior to the match, and that this gesture was very much appreciated.

Regarding expenses, the cost of coach travel is covered in the Isthmian League regulations, as the match was called off after the arrival of the away team.

The Margate directors told me that they had a similar experience at Leiston, when they got to the ground just in time for the referee to call it off.

I think there might be frayed tempers here after last night as the ref had a shocker and they (Lewes) won on a fluke goal (waiting on the video on that). I'm still fuming now!!!! Has anyone else noticed that there's always a sending off when there's an assessor around?

I'm guessing that Margate need to win all their games in hand to get back on terms with Maidstone so I'm not looking forward to the match.

Thank you for a well put unbiased opinion dagger 03.  Its a shame that the good relationship that the clubs supporters have has been tarnished by one person with their own agenda.  With your team struggling at the moment it is regretful that the team will not have as many supporters at Hartsdown to try and encourage them at the match.  It is always a good atmosphere when you are here and you usually seem to leave with a good result.  And with our current form its likely that you could well get another one!!!  However I know that whoever travels down to Hartsdown, that they will get their usual warm welcome.

The continuing works were about 15 of us forking the pitch, putting sand down in certain areas.

I would like to see the regulation where it states away team travel must be paid as I can only see that the ref/linesmen need to be paid.

However am still looking forward to seeing you fans again and am glad a coach is now running.

Have looked again and this is the only regulation I can see:

In the event of a pitch inspection being carried out by a Referee other than the match Referee, a fee of half the Referee’s fee may be offered, plus travel expenses, paid by the Home Club. If the appointed Match Officials have reported to the ground they are entitled to their expenses plus half their match fee if the match is not played.

This, of course, was paid.

My post has nothing to do with losing 1-0 last night. I can assure you that.

It was my first opportunity to get on the forum that day to advise my fellow Hornchurch supporters that there was not going to be a coach. I feel that they are owed the truth. Looks like you cant be honest on these forums any more without being shot down as soon as an opinion has been said.

I just passed on the message that i was told. So don't shoot the messenger!

In regards to why i was not at the previous game is no concern of yours or of any others.

However i am pleased that you noticed that i wasn't there. So observant of you :)

I'm not tarnishing any relationship between the clubs and i'm not aiming this at any individual, people asked why there was no coach so i told what i was told! Neither am i aware of payment between clubs that can stay there.

May be people shouldn't be so quick to jump on their high horses!

By all means i'm very happy that a coach has now been put on and will take bookings on another thread. Thank you and i wish both teams well.

Think this is all sorted out now, let's move on and look forward to the game.

Massive thank you to Sir Gary.

Do agree with Miss AFCH that there has been a lot of 'shooting down' on this forum as she puts it recently. If we get to a situation where we can't have an opinion then people will just stop using the forum.
