staines_rebel_Jr
it was announced today that FIFA have finally decided that the Qatar 2022 world cup will be held in November/December. There has already been a lot of debate about whether it should even be held in Qatar but what do other people think about having the world cup in winter (no matter which country it is held in) For me I think it is going to mess up several seasons worth of football in most European countries (even those who already have winter breaks) as it means domestic cup competitions and European cup competitions will have to be completely rescheduled to fit around the break, the football season itself will probably have to be made longer to fit in all the games as well as including a rest time for players coming back from the world cup and also the weeks before the start of the world cup so that countries national teams can come together and train. Most players complain about being tired after coming back from a world cup so imagine that happening in the middle of the season. The following euro's competition will have less time to do the qualifying stages meaning that they will again have to take up more time during the normal playing season to complete them. The African cup of nations is held after the world cup so that will have to be postponed meaning more fixtures having to be rearranged. If the season does get extended to say the end of june/july that then means players will complain about not getting enough rest for the start of the next season. And this could potentially become a regular thing. Obviously this is coming from a European football perspective rather than a worldwide football perspective, but considering European countries contribute by far the most money to FIFA and the most players at the world cup, surely they should have the biggest say in this. One good thing which may come of it is that during the "winter break" for the world cup many fans wont have any league football to watch and we might be able to attract them to come watch non league football, especially if we can offer world cup relating events/offers. Assuming by 2022 we do have our own ground with a 3G pitch the club could set up a mini world cup aimed at local schools and the community to raise awareness or the club. I've started to move away from the point now so ill leave it there
RTyler01
Not sure it has been to the relevant fifa committee yet. Just a taskforce recommendation.
Don Juan DeMarcus
Agree with above its not a final decision just a recommendation. I hate the idea. Works cup is for summer end of. Brighton on holiday
Premiership going bonkers at the idea of it ruining their brand, but couldnt give a shit about 100s of people who've died building grounds and infrastructure.
HorshamRebel
Next thing to happen now will be the losing bids for the 2022 "Summer" World Cup suing FIFA for giving the competition to a country that could never meet the criteria set out to bid on. We have not seen the end of this, this is just the beginning
Fulham Rebel
Warren that's not a fair comment, just because you don't like the premiership. There are a lot of us that do enjoy it AND also care about people. Sue
PaulCh
Noting all the points above and Qatar definitely shouldn't host the world cup but generally i prefer the tournament to be held during the football season rather than at the end of a long season. If it messes with the Premier League then that is of little concern to me.

Ian
If the national team ceased to exist tomorrow I can honestly say I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest.

Bernie Gogan
It's a shame we have to dance to FIFA's tune on anything, it's a corrupt and now disgraced organisation. Qatar is a joke, but nobody mentions that the next competition is in Russia. I remember the smug faces from the Russian delegation when the result of the "vote" was announced, they already knew it was theirs. I'm proud to be English and support our national team, but I'd rather we didn't take part in either of these competitions.
HorshamRebel
There are possible talks of that being moved given the current Russian aggressions
HEAVY TRUCKER
i don't know why we are even worried probably won't qualify anyway.
