'Legal' time wasting....

Curtis

Recommended Posts

I recall getting very frustrated last season when other clubs 'legally' wasted time against us... goalkeepers messing about in possession and players running the ball down to the corner flags.

This season, unfortunately, at times we appear to have adopted similar tactics.... is it just part of the current game which I need to stop getting annoyed about, or is it really unsporting conduct that shouldn't be part of the game??

Must agree,Curtis, that I too,get fed up with players running to the corner flags.

I understand doing this in a quarter, semi or main final of a cup competition or if it were one game before promotion or relegation but it seems plain daft in normal league matches,

Surely if players can get forward to the corner, then why not just go for the jugular and endeavour to set up an attack in an effort to score a goal, rather than the inane time wasting which becomes deadly dull.

In the Reading v Wigan match last night there were 12 mins added time at the end of the game, Most of this was due to Wigans time wasting which started in the 18th min when they took the lead. Two wigan players were also yellow carded for this offence.

Not much can be done about it im afraid as most Refs ignore it.

Too many Refs just point to their watch indicating that time will be added on.

The main aim of 'time wasting' is to slow the game down, disrupt the flow of the game and the other teams rhythm.

Just adding time on is not the answer.

Instead of just pathetically pointing to their watch, Refs need to dish out the yellows and red cards and hopefully players will get the message.
