Steve Browne

Its Proving to be that perhaps Steve Browne is not such a bad manager after all, we put a post on saying much the same thing the season before last and we created quite a few abusive replies. The players salaries at Boring Wood may not so high as at Slough but regular. Steve had problems behind the scenes at Slough & it was extremely difficult to motivate players when they have not been paid on a regular basis. He certainly did not deserve all the crap he received from our so called supporters, even after he left the abuse continued from senior supporter members who should know better and perhaps now they have egg on their faces. I note from recent posts our supporters now want Eddie Denton out, here we go again god help us. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think it's certainly proved that the club have bigger problems than what is going on on the pitch. Until that is stablised and the playing staff know that things will be done each week on time, then we're never going to be certain if its the manager or the chairman's cashflow that's causing the problems.

I'm sure that there are a number of things going on behind the scenes at this club which we're not aware of which have continued on from last season which are affecting us detrimentally, and I also believe that a number of faults lie with, and continue to be unresolved, by our beloved chairman. The fact Browne has gone and done a good job at 'Wood has gone some way to prove he wasn't the problem at the club last season, Deaner was, and still is. I hope this trust really takes off and can help us kick Martyn up the backside and get things done properly.

I can hope can't I?

One other thing. I don't necessarily agree Denton is the right man for the job in the long run, but I do believe he's the right person for the job this season as he's sticking to a sensible budget and not being drawn in by Deaner's "Spend what you like, I'll pay for it" which Deaner himself can't afford. In that respect alone, I have the utmost faith in Eddie and I'll continue to support him and the eleven Slough players on the pitch at any given time this season.

I do think Denton is right to stick to an affordable budget, but I am concerned by the raising of unrealistic expectations. Browne promised promotion, but got us relegated instead, at one stage blaming the poor performances on the fans--I never trusted a word he said after that.

This season has again seen promises of performances that arn't being produced on the pitch. Can't help but think whoever is manager would be better advised not to promise what they can't deliver. Most other clubs, when selecting a new manager, advertise the job, and select from the applicants. We seem to automatically appoint the deputy. Rewarding loyalty has its merits, but there is also something to be said for fresh ideas---or does Deaner only appoint someone who is housetrained? For me the jury is still out.

Browne treated the fans like sh$t as you well know Gary, and the only way he was taking the club was down.

I have to ask, was the originator of this thread Browne himself???!!!

Brownes gone and we now need to ensure that we have the correct structure to move forward and that is at both management level and the chairman himself.

Well I can't stay silent on this thread.

My problems with Browne aside from the the fact that he did not care about the fans were: his team selections, tactics, inability to learn from his and the teams' mistakes, inability to coach the players in certain areas i.e. to defend corners and inability to draw the best out of proven performers or those that have gone on to better things eg. Alvin Bubb - now apparently doing well for Aylesbury and Roscoe D'Sane scoring loads for Aldershot and playing for England Semi-pros. Dodgy Devi Davies who could not hit a cow's [****!!****] with a banjo for the Rebels.

Steve Browne has gone to a side relegated from the Ryman Premier and taken the best players from a side that finished in the top six in the Ryman Divison One North last year. Should be no surprise that he is doing well for the Wood this year but I remain confident that I am right about Browne and his flaws will catch him out eventually.

I have said on a previous thread, that I think a more experienced man should come in and Denton revert to his assistant's role. The reasoning: at this level you need to be able to coach to high standard, you need to know the scene to pick up players and you need to be able to work within a restricted budget.

Denton only knows the club with a big budget and does not have a great deal of experience with coaching. I think someone more experienced could do a better job. But, you will not hear me calling for Denton to go at games(certainly not this season, at least).

My point was not that a samll budget is a bad idea, far from it. What I was driving at is, that since Eddie has been at the club in 99 (I think) we have had a large budget and the solution to any on field problem was to sign new players. Quite sensibly we are not doing that this season (although there has been a significant influx of new players they have only replaced the multitudes that have left) we appear to ave a squad that we largely have to stick to. Clearly we have some on the field problems now so the solution has to come from the manager both tactically and through his coaching. My point is; is Eddie up to that? I hope so but simply think a more experienced manager could deal with the club better.

Having said all that I don't want to harp on the point, I have nothing against Eddie.
