Histon away (rearranged)

Recommended Posts

Not many write ups about the game, does this mean only a few of us loyal fans went ?

Sorry, probably a bit late now, but for posterity...

I live in Leicester and usually work Tuesday so night matches for me are not possible but was off work and it was only about 70 miles so decided to take a trip.

Got to the ground in good time and was confronted by a young steward asking me if I was on the parking list.

I tried giving my name as Trevor Brooking and Robbie Savage but he wasn't having it. Things looked more hopeful when I said I was Neil Baker, but unfortunately Neil had got there before me so I had to hand over £2 and was directed to a "car park" It was full!

Anyway found somewhere and got in the ground. Pretty impressive. Same steward as in the car park warned me to avoid the white lines on crowd safety grounds so not wanting to be responsible for for a major safety incident I vaulted anything white  and wandered round behind the goal with the rest of the Slough fans.

I've not been for a few weeks and as results had been poor I wondered if  maybe the team would be sluggish and nervous but not a bit of it. The Rebels played with their customary pace and style and it was one way traffic for most of the game. I think the Histon defence must have been on a huge "clean sheet" bonus as they defended and threw themselves at the ball as if their lives depended on it and that it without mentioning their keeper who played a blinder.

Our new defender (Daniel Brown??) had a great start I thought and although it ended up being goalless and only 1 pt for their efforts I don't think there is anything to be concerned about as the team still play with great confidence and a high tempo that is both skilful and entertaining.

Before long the floodgates will open and we will start to get results that our play deserves.

It seems other Slough fans had trouble with road works heading south. Same going north as without warning the A14 was suddenly closed leading to a merry dance in the dark through the Cambridge countryside.
