Are CCL Clubs missing the boat ?

I can't believe the jealousy on this forum because of a club receiving grants, Bedfont Sports should be applauded for the grants they have got them selves over the last how ever many years, the club has got one of the best youth set ups around and a fantastic facility which will now benefit many many more kids and adults in the area.

 

I've had my run ins with both Dave and Terry Reader in the past but I've got to say what they have and what they are continuing to do for the club is fantastic and I wish them all the best.

Spot on Ellers,they are not everyones cup of tea,but they definitely have their finger on the pulse.Forgot to add that 6 Bedfont Sports U 18 players represented Middlesex County F.A. in the National Competition,and have reached the Final.So the future looks bright both on and off the pitch.Long may it last.

I have know the Dave and Terry Reader for many years, They have done a fantastic job at the club . there are not many people who would give up their time to do what they have done . I can remember when Dave was groundsmen next door Bedfont FC. was one of the best grounds in the league . now look at what he has done to Bedfont sports. All credit to the reader family and Bedfont sports. a pleasure to know them. all the best guys. regards Butts.

There is no jealousy here. I even wished them well. You can't blame them for asking.

 

My problem is that everyone says there is limited money for grass roots football and we are all members of a very competitive league where players will often change allegiance for an extra tenner a week.

 

With Bedfont Sports having received a substantial contribution towards their clubhouse already, there just ought to be a rule that stops any club from receiving too much money when there is so little about and many other clubs would love to see the grants shared out a bit. If I were Bedfont & Feltham, who lets face it, as Bedfont folded not long ago because of costs, I'd be annoyed. They were the larger club there and have struggled for finances, yet next door people are lining up to throw money at a club that have already received substantial help.

 

It's like the keeper who wastes time at the end of a game they are winning. Of course they can do it, and everyone in their position would. It doesn't mean it is right though and the person or persons in charge should stamp it out. The same rule should apply here or season after season this league will be won by whoever is given the most money, and I really hoped that at this level the promotions would be won on the field, not off them.

The funny thing is that 5 years ago when I first visited a CCL game,the facilities of CCL 1 Clubs was nothing to shout about,many have still stayed the same.However due to a lot of hard work behind the scenes,by some Clubs ie Bedfont Sports,Knaphill,Westfield,Spelthorne Sports,South Park,they have raised the bar,as far as getting funding is concerned,there is a link to why they have been able to do this,and that is they do not waste large sums of money,if any on players budgets.Just because you were a BIG Team once,gives you no right to dwell in the past,as this gaurantees no success at all.Maybe the CCL Committee,should take a leaf out of the above Clubs books,and up its game somewhat.We used to have Team of the Month,Benchwear for the Cold Winter months,now we get teams that are no more than 100 yards apart,playing on the same day,utter madness.

Don't see why there should be a rule to stop people from receiving grants because they've already done so. I see where your coming from but at the end of the day these grants aren't handed out easily & have to be earned.

 

As a few have already said, Bedfont Sports have worked hard over the last few years to not just get their first team up to scratch but the rest of the club too. Comparing them to Bedfont & Feltham you can see why they have received more grants. Although B&F's youth section has grown this year, Sports' junior set-up is huge, on top of a reserve team, an under 18s & the same on a Sunday. That is essentially what will get them grants & they've obviously invested it wisely back into the club & facilities. 

 

The other thing to bear in mind is these grants are available to all but how many clubs actually apply for them? If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the raffle. If other clubs aren't applying then why should Bedfont not profit from it.
