The Cherry Red Trophy

Recommended Posts

What a corker for Basildon United, having already beaten Bovington at home they now play Crown & Manor or Staines Lammas in Round 3 on 13th December and victory will mean a Quarter Final tie with Colliers Wood, Welwyn Garden City or Farleigh Rovers on 7th February also at home. All this means avoiding the mighty White Ensign till at least semi's. Let's hope that Enfield Town and Concord Rangers will be equally as lucky in the next F A Vase draw !

Seems that Basildon United can now enjoy Xmas and New Year before moving on in this competition as their MIddlesex County League opponents will not play until 20th December (Crown and Manor v Staines Lammas).. If anyone wants to "spy" on their opponents the C & M ground is Mile End Stadium which they share with Kent League Sporting Bengal. New date for Bees tie is 17th January 2004.

It is already documented that the Essex Senior League did not consider that the facilities at the Mile End Stadium came up to our criteria at the time that Sporting Bengal United applied to join us. We suggested that a year in the Middlesex County League to upgrade them would be an appropriate option in the knowledge that Crown & Manor FC had already decided this. The subsequent business of the Kent League deciding that the ground came up to their standards just goes to show that there is an urgent need in the National Game to implement a common ground criteria and this League is very much part of the ongoing talks with the F A which we hope will result in situations like this less likely to happen again . The ground, of course, definately fulfils " Cherry Red" criteria.

elastic boundaries have moved about for years in football i.e. st albans play in the london cup and enfield reserves used to play in the essex & herts border combination.
