"Back in my day", the home side would be responsible for calling through the result and as such, the scorers. I don' think the ref has to report who scored, just any bookings and the final score, but don't hold me to that. It was a long, long time ago now! The league wouldn't take anyone other than a recognised club official to change the scorers either, so it would have been either us or Weymouth requesting that change.

I wouldn't have thought that Weymouth would have been keen to report it as being an own goal.

Does the Ref report the goal scorers as I think it was announced on the tannoy that it was an own goal?

That prob where the ref got it from because he wasn't in a position to see, he only got into the area as Ed turned to celebrate (see hight lights).

The tannoy is from the tunnel so not near enough to see, I was what 8 yards away.

As kay said "if there is a debate they go with the Ref"

I didn't announce the second scorer as I couldn't see it. My first reaction was o.g. and I spoke to the Weymouth fans who weren't sure. As a result I only announced the time of the goal. The only time I referenced it being Ed's goal was when I announced the man of the match award and said "first half hat-trick scorer, Ed Smith".

As Kay has said, it would have been based on the refs report.

So are all these officials on all fronts going to be so quick in making decisons in giving us the 3points v Banbury and the 2 goals to Scott i don.t think so.

Well looks like you've got your way the second goal has been taken off Ed and given as an OG to the 5 James Laird.

Mark I resent that you say 'you've got your way' as if some people on here were against smith being given the hat trick. The idea of people posting on here after a game is to debate talking points and to explain to people who couldn't be there what happened and how the game unfolded. I am just as adamant it was an own goal that you are it was smiths and that's therefore how I reported it on here. Since then we have debated our views and discussed the general rules behind the definition of an own goal.

I think it's rather petty to seemingly indicate that anyone that doesn't agree with you is wrong.

Radders

" " tongue in check

look at my post #26 ()

My view on an own goal is:-

If the ball is deflected or not, and I think it was deflected off the defender after a strike on goal by the attacker.

I don't think the defender tried to get in the way of the ball it just hit him after the attacker strikes it.

The Officials in this case were not in a position to say one why or the other (see high lights)
