Ed Smith

Even though I am a big Ed Smith fan, it's a bit silly comparing lists of goal scorers because the goals were scored at different levels of the pyramid. Also nowadays goals that are deflected by the opposition mainly go to the player who struck the ball goalwards.Back in the day it would always be considered an own goal.

I am more than happy for ed to get credit for the hat trick and agree that had his header been on target and the 5 had then headed it it would have been his goal. But eds touch was extremely faint and as Marcus said in another thread was probably going straight across goal and not in so therefore was an own goal.

Radders as I said from my angle Ed got more on it than a glance, from you view you must have been nearly in line with the cross?

I was side on and Ed did get a lot more on it.

(good discussion this)

Nowadays it's given more to the striker of the ball.

I think this is going wide!!!!

TBF verthongen deserves to be given that goal to make up for the horrendous decision to rule out his last minute goal for offside. (one of the worst decisions in a very long time)

Unforgivable error from a supposed top lino. Luckily in the end it didn't matter   :)

I was stood on the other side of the goal to where the ball went in the net. So as jake parsons crossed the ball it was in effect heading straight at me. It was clear that the path of the ball had not deviated much as it passed eds head when it then slammed into the head of their 5 who buried it into the back if his own net. There was one either earlier this season or late last at the shed end where I was adamant I'd seen one thing and video evidence showed another. However, I am a lot more certain in this occasion of what I saw. Anyway as I said definately not begrudging ed a match ball and would always rather see a striker given a goal than own goals but just going on what I saw.

Bet Jon likes this to have the mighty Rebels and Spurs on the same thread to end a great weekend for him and Neil.

COYREBELS@SPURS

Too right! It's not often we get a Rebels win and a Spurs win in the same weekend! :D

I'm sure Eddie is reading this thread and dying to say something! For me I don't care if it was going in or not before the defender got the final touch, that is always going to be so hard to prove, let's just give him the goal and the hat-trick that his performance deserved and move on now!

This is nothing to worry about a little thing in the big picture, BUT

that offside in the Spurs game WOT a blunder, I thought they made the Officials pros so they would be better, and not make so many mistakes  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forever taking goals off Ed Smith!

Indeed. In the hastily arranged pre-season game against Hayes & Yeading, Eddie scored two but was denied a hat-trick when the referee disallowed a goal for supposed handball! I remember it well - I was the referee!
