3rd round draw of The Vase

Recommended Posts

What a fascinating draw for Enfield Town. The ESL have seen a couple of ties over the years against this League, one in Rd 5 in 1983-84 when Stansted beat Bristol Manor Farm en route to winning the trophy and the two great semi-finals ties against Tiverton Town that I saw, with Canvey Island, in 1993. In Taunton (once Winners, twice finalists) and Tiverton (twice Winners and three times finalists) they have had great F A Vase specialists and that makes three wins - the same as the ESL so this tie is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for Enfield Town to nullify this "progress" of what I can only say is a very strong and well respected league who have had a leading role in the National League discussions with the FA of late. By the way, Chippenham Town, losers to Deal Town in 2000, were the sixth finalist - a formidable record by anybody's reckoning.

As regards paying the expenses of the away side, I remember going to see Witham Town playing Falmouth in 1986 and 550 watched the game but the expenses of the South Western league champions were so high including hotel accomodation that Witham ended up all square money wise but losing the match 1-2.

Certainly, Torrington are a strong side this season by their position but having read all this you will see that what we have to beat is the "Western league" syndrome and I have no doubt that Enfield Town are perfectly capable of achieving this. The F A Vase is a great tournament and I know a few clubs in the "Trophy" who would prefer to be in the "Vase" , its warming up very nicely and we will all be backing our sides , starting tomorrow night with Concord Rangers at Arundel, 100% !

What's with all this talk of a replay....I think we should comfortably win the home tie.

I think it's cos some people would like a trip to Devon and are forgetting that a) it will be bloody cold if we have to go there in December, B) any replay will be an evening game and c) the nearest railway station is nearly seven miles from the ground (so, with b & c no chance of an awayday train journey). Also, they appear to be away draw specialists in the league this season.

It's going to be a tough one but on the day we should certainly be able to win it.

It was at 11 o'clock Mr Happy sir. The Western league doesn't look that strong. Torrington are 2nd 11 points behind Bideford and played a game more. Record is P14 W6 D6 L2 GF30 GA24. So we could have a good chance espeically being at home.

They're third at the moment because Brislington are two points above them with two games in hand. If you want to keep track of their position in the table, it is on the Western League web site. Their away league record is P6 W1 D4 L1 F11 A11. It is their home record which is keeping them up the top of the league but taking an away record like that into a cup game, they must be confident of getting us back to their place.

Also, I wouldn't write the league off that quickly. After all, Paulton Rovers got as far as the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup and only lost 1-0 to Hornchurch (and I'm sure we all remember what Hornchurch did to Carshalton in 3q!).

YEAH , WELL I BET WE GO FURTHER THAN YOU DO IN IT THIS SEASON!!

Being as we are not playing in the Cherry Red Trophy I reckon you could be onto a winner there!

If you mean you will go further in the Cherry Red than Town in the Vase well Torrington are a good team but then so were Flackwell Heath and we did our homework and beat them! End of the season will tell!
