Hungerford match

Before this season started,I said that we could measure how far Slough have done, when we compare ourselves to Chesham.

To this end,I think, we all think, our managers have exceeded expectations this season,as long as we don't tumble down into the relegation zone from now till the end of the season !

Given that Chesham have had to re-group somewhat this season.

I think Hungerford will be a better test for us.They lie in 7th place and on paper they look a decent outfit, with quality running throughout their team.

No disgrace if they beat us but looking forward to seeing us pit our wits against them.It will be interesting to see if we can keep their attacking players quiet,as they don't seem to lack for fire power.

Stuart just an interesting comment on that statement above about Hungerford don't lack for fire power, my observation is slightly different, in that where they are very strong is defensively, in that they have only conceded 21 goals from 26 games (2nd best in the league) Granted they have excellent players all over the pitch and good attacking players in the squad, however I am sure that if you asked Bobby Wilkinson he would agree that the amount of goals they have scored this season is probably why they are not in the top 3, having scored 36 goals from 26 games compared to our 45 (an extra 25%).

Neil,I never look at statistics but obviously these speak for themselves.I just look at the players they have in their squad ie Mark Draycott,Charlie Mpi,Lee Smith, etc.

From what you say,our forwards are going to have their work cut out. I just hope that our midfieders can get some room to get forward to support our front line quicker than we did at Chesham.

Understand Jon's reasoning on Rebels Radio,on the Chesham game, about putting Dobbo on,to see if we could grab a result and was in agreement with it but would have done it a bit sooner. From my perspective, thought Ben and Adrian both sat back too deep,as the 2nd half progressed, and so we lacked a bit centrally in taking the game to Chesham,

I thought you may have taken either a tiring Ben or Adrian off and tucked Knighty inside and pushed him further forward but could see why you didn't.

Still,a good point gained,as we never seem to get much luck at Chesham.

Let's hope we can create a tad more against Hungerford.

See! you and Unders have spoilt us ! Fans always want more lol !

Wonder what the Slough line-up will be today?

Can't wait for the game to get underway. Don't like saying that,as when I usually look forward to a Slough match,we turn out to play crap ! ha ha !

Hope the game isn't going to be affected by wind and rain.

You never know the wind and rain could help us ,one or two of the Hungerford side seem to be fair weather boys in my opinion.Still I am expecting a win nevertheless .

Game of two halves. First half well on top, created all the chances of note and deservedly took the lead on the stroke of half time.

The questions during the interval were whether we would rue the missed chances and keep up the performance. The answers were emphatically yes and no. From the moment they equalised they dominated and the defeat was seemingly inevitable.

It is a real shame that at the moment we seem incapable of putting in a complete performance at "home".

Hampered by the injury to Smithy and presumably a lack of match fitness for Dobbo which restricted the ability to change the pattern of the game from the bench.

Hopefully will bounce back for the derby on Saturday

Good first half and only some poor finishing stopped us from being at least a couple of goals to the good.

Different story second half where our creativity was non existent hence Hungerfords keeper didn't have a shot to save.

Shot ourselves in the foot again with some poor defending in our right back position and not for the first time this season.

Hopefully we can bounce back on Saturday!

COYR!!

Credit to Hungerford, on the whole thought they deserved the win.Impressed by their manager,Bobby Wilkinson, who implored his players to keep attacking. Not many managers have that philosophy away from home.

Costly mistakes by Sean Fraser to their livewire  number 11 will be blamed for the loss but that isn't just the reason for the loss.

We played well first half but again, like at the Chesham game we faded in the second half and we do seem to be waiting for things to happen than making things happen,as the game goes on and are too predictable in what we do.

Today,we had a problem holding the ball up front and are waiting for our wingers to run down the channels to get the usual cross in.

We  are crying out for adventure from the middle of the park.

Hungerford are a good side and of course,by their defensive record are not an easy side to break through,so no shame in the defeat.Just wish we could have tested them a bit more.Their goalkeeper got off light.

Hopefully Adam Martin can help this situation,as he is a  central midfielder that likes to get forward, something we've missed for awhile.

Harsh on Sean singling him out. The through ball for their equaliser was fantastic and whilst I suppose every goal is avoidable I wouldn't blame Sean. I don't think he was in a bad position, it was just a fantastic pass followed by an equally good finish.

Definately feel we need to revert back to shooting towards 'the kop' second half. Really doesn't help the atmosphere the other way round and whilst I don't think this is the only reason for some poor home displays I don't think the current situation helps. Yesterday being stood at the far end second half made it feel like a capital league game of old and the one time we did try a song it just got lost in the wilderness.

Same old storey of late, still inconsistent especially at home.It is well known you should kill your opponents off while you are on top ( ask Arsenal ). Not holding out much hope against Burnham because they are a side down the bottom of the league and we don't seem to do well against those teams. Still there is still a chance of a top ten finish .
