AMPTHILL TOWN 1-3 LEVERSTOCK GREEN

With my club's game an early casualty and back-ups at Crawley Green and Tring also disappearing, I pinned all my remaining hopes on Ampthill to provide the afternoon's diversion necessitating a change of top as I suspect a Leighton Town jumper may not have gone down too well.

An impeccably observed minute's silence for (presumably) SML stalwart Jim Bean was followed by Ampthill reverting back to their struggling ways after a brief brighter spell earlier this season. LG had the bulk of the possession throughout the first half, but it took them just over twenty minutes to break the deadlock and from then on, they bossed the game which fell into my "nothing" category - in that no result would have made any difference to either side's position in the table.

Ampthill's goal came with about 15 minutes to go but was of little use as the Pancakes had already tossed them aside. A surprisingly large crowd here today (by previous standards anyway). Was it to pay homage to Jim Bean, or (more likely) the result of all other games in the division being off?

Edgeware vs stony was a good game to watch...

Crowd of 131 there and they should be fairly please with what they saw..

With conditions we are not used to Stony looked the brighter from the off and saw the edgeware keeper in fine form, the keeper made 2-3 good saves in the first 10 mins to keep the score level..

Edgeware a first goal came just after in the first meaningful attack and the ball slotted home after the stony keeper made a save.

Again the edgeware keeper made 2-3 more saves and edgeware cought us napping with a smart finish.

Just before half time the solid keeper gave us a chance by throwing the ball to us which led to a well taken goal.

Half time 2-1 with edgeware controlling possession but stony creating the better chances on the break..

Second half with stony adapting the strategy a bit gave us a boost.. And a deflected shot left the keeper no chance.

Neither team created to many chances until a well hit shot from a stony player to rocket one home from 20 yards with not long to go.

This led to an edgeware surge where they had all the play and created opportunities to score with the stony unit defended well and keeper making some important saves.

But 5 mins to go a free kick from a wide area was put into a dangerous area and the ball thundered home with a header..

Last 5 mins, chances at both ends but I think a draw may be a fair reflection.

Both teams put a very good effort in!

I know the weather is poor at the moment but is your pitch suffering with Southall playing there. Always been a great pitch in the past.

Nothing to do with Southall FC in my opinion. We have had plenty of tenants before them.

To be honest I don't rate our pitch these days. Its a very flat pitch and its looks great in August, September and October but then we get a bit of rain and it starts to look like sh*t. We are on a flood plain as well I think and we have had drainage problems the last two seasons.

Wembley FCs pitch is 100% better than ours and they ground share and Even Harefield United FCs pitch is loads better than our pitch and they also ground share.

The new drainage the dug round the edges seems to have made it worse. That's where all the flooding has been, and the line's. They should put 3g down the sides for the lino's who seem to be cutting up the pitch the most.

What a boring weekend.. Was going to make the trip across town to Edgware , but then remembered i had some paint to watch dry. The other closest game to watch was in Luton at 61FC but then see it was a reserve game so spent the day in Sainsburys with the missus and daughter screaming her head off about wanting some peppa pig cake.

Next league game for us is probably the biggest of the South Mids season against Kings Langley on the 17th. Buzzington for that clash.
