Seeing as H&Y are only a league higher and struggling, not personally sure (although I'm sure one of our managers will tell me otherwise!) a 17 year old in their reserves is the type of quality we need?

Seems Luke is a defender, possibly a full back.

I can only think that we are a bit short in defense or in the squad as a whole for tomorrow.

Glen - I'm sure with that welcome Luke can't wait to pull on a Rebels shirt.

It's not about having an opinion, it's about trying to see just a potential bit of positive. The default position for some people on here is no water and no glass, let alone half full or empty. He's being written off because he's a youngster but that didn't stop Aleks Gogic coming in and doing a great job for us.

If Jon and Neil have gone to the trouble of bringing this guy in they must feel that he can do a job. At the very least I'm prepared to see the guy kick a football before we dismiss him.

I guess the problem we find ourselves in as managers, is that when we bring a player to the club, people instantly ask is he good enough??, why have they brought him in etc??, however there is always different types of signings, and hopefully we have proved by now that we know what we are doing (well at east some of the time ;) )!!!

There are players that are big marquee signings as such, that we all know when we bring in they will be big players for us, there are some that we may believe in as we have seen a number of times, and want to give them a chance, loan players, and then you might get the odd one or two who are recommended to us  (who we may not have seen) and we want to take a look at them in close contact (i.e in training, in a keep ball session etc), and to possibly involve them in the squad when numbers are low, these are usually young lads who are eager to impress and earn a deal.

This does not mean that they will be with us long term or a huge part of the squad, it might be that they never play for us at all, a good example of that was Jamal Branker, who we bought in and decided we would put on the bench for one game, however having seen him both myself and Unders thought he would probably not be one for us going forward and we passed him on to Marlow.

The truth of the matter is we go into Christmas with a few question marks over one or two players injury wise (defensively), and we wanted to bolster our numbers a bit, and sometimes by involving a young lad we might get lucky, I know for example I was a 17 year old kid playing in Farnborough Towns reserves when I got the call up to play an game away at Southport in the Conference, I got a chance due to some injuries and took it.

The lad may never even play for the club for all we know, however we always like to keep you up to date with any new faces so it is not a surprise to you come match day.

In fact due to an issue with his Southern League form he will not be available tomorrow after all this.

We are not saying people cant have opinions but I don't see what we stand to benefit from being slightly negative about a young kid trying to do his utmost best to forge out a football career.

If we as managers turned round and said we our resting all our hopes on the kid then I can understand why you would question the signing, however nobody has said that.

Anyway that is just a few of my thoughts and opinions, hopefully that goes someway to explaining the signing also.

Cheers Bakes

Blimey if I knew what an uproar one comment would have made, I'd have kept my mouth shut!!! I'm not sure (I'll have to check the hundreds of thousands forum/message boards of all clubs) but I think I'm not the first to make a slightly critical comment on a new signing... Anyway subject closed as it's getting stupid now.

That's correct Luke was on the bench for one of their games over the Christmas period.

He has signed Southern League forms and trained with us twice but at the moment we have sufficient numbers in the squad so we'll have to see how it goes as to whether he is involved at any point.

Luke left Hayes & Yeading a few weeks ago and at that time asked to be transferred from his Southern League registration with us over to AFC Hayes as that is somewhere he will get regular football. He is therefore no longer with us or H&Y.

A lot of noise on here for a player who never even kicked a ball for us!! :P
