Graham Cox
Lots of discussion last season about necessary squad size with very mixed views........... If we look at today's situation the squad size seems a little lean---if we leave out keepers(one of which is long term injured anyway !), and also discount long term injuries to Foulser and Warren Harris we have 15 and that includes Rummy whose presence is for a limited time only. Any thoughts from supporters or management
Windsor Rebel
Its all down to budget I guess. Squad size is fine IMO.

Any thoughts from supporters or management 2 things Adam is not far off from being back and I'd go for quality over numbers every time. As you've left out the keepers that leaves 5 outfield players not playing that's half a team.
Neil Baker
You are forgetting Ben Edwards, which makes it 16 outfield players and Jake. Foulser will be back after Christmas after a few games out on loan, and I am sure we will look to bring someone in to replace Rummy going. At the end of the day you can only play 11 players at a time, and with games after Christmas pretty much only once a week (subject to weather) then if we pick up a number of knocks on the Saturday and are limited in the squad we have a week to address it. However we have gone with 14 fit players a number of times this season (13 fit senior players away at St Neots), and will be more than happy to do so again. I think your final sentence,Neil, addresses the issue of whether we will make play off challengers. Most of the Slough fans[myself included] are happy with what the team has done this season and will settle for mid table obscurity,as long as we give a good account of ourselves when playing individual games. However, when we are serious about challenging the big teams for the title,we must have five decent subs[or at least 4] when playing the best sides in the division. Obviously injuries and work commitments get in the way of fielding a full bench but that happens with every team.
A Rebel and a Saint
Looks like we have taken Hayes and Yeading's 17 year old defender Luke Bersey on loan (?) over the Christmas period to give him first team experience. According to their website he is their u18 and reserve team captain.

Neil Baker
The lad has played for their first team at 16, but then did his ACL, he is coming to the club to get some experience around a senior dressing room.
3spirit
I don't want to put dampner on it but 17 and playing for H&Y reserves?????? Completely disagree with that statement,Reading Rebel. If you always go for the tried and tested, how do you unearth a gem? Of course, you cannot throw youngsters in and expect them to be world-beaters but what would you prefer on the bench? An empty seat or someone with potential. I know what I would choose, everytime !

Sir Rebel1965
Problem goes back to the Bateman days when he would only go for proven players and therefore we missed out on the likes of Mo Shariff and others who needed some opportunities to develop into the first team. Agree Rebel1965,Steve Bateman may have learnt this lesson, now he's at Aylesbury. We have no such worries with Bakes and Unders. Mo Shariff should have been playing regularly in the first team far sooner than it ever happened. Having said that,Steve Bateman was no mug at getting some very experienced players into the Slough side and I,for one,was pleased to watch some very good technically gifted players here at Slough, when he was manager. Credit where credit is due,Steve wasn't as bad as some may want you to believe but he did have blind spots, like we all have,if truth be told. Funny thing really is that I thought Sam Bateman could have played a lot more first team games for Slough than he did.Seems Steve isn't making the same mistake with his other son,Ben at Aylesbury. Won't it be ironic if Aylesbury get promoted this season! I for one hope he achieves it.Also it would be another local match for us.
