Bill Lee Elliott -Old Twinkle toes

Recommended Posts

Everybody at Flackwell Heath FC seemed to be called Lee Elliott or Leigh Elliott or Lee McElliott.

And so it was a a very soggy afternoon at Flackwell Heath for 218 Town fans who braved the elements.

The football was a workman like piece of work. and a generally good day at the office for the team. Flackwell were always going to be atough nut to crack and both town and the Heathens had done their prematch homework. The Pitch had a good slope from side to side. After one of the few town attacks town received a free kick outside the area which was not indirect and out own Billy (Elliott) for the day strolled up and nailed it in the nearside bottom corner leaving the keeper Matt Pollard no chance.

Second half it was a narrow strip of land behind the goal at the other end with no cover and so it was brollies or waterproof coats and we were drenched.

Matt Pollard was a real big softy and was full of admiration for Mr Happys little one and it was no surprise that he donated his wages for the day to a charity related to her illness - Top man who quickly won over the Town fans with his great attitude. We sang Singing in the Rain and he danced. Said it all really!

In the first half the fans sheltered under a stand behind the goal and the song Swing Low Sweet Chariot resonated around the ground. Could there have been a rugby game of note earlier in the day?

Town fans played a game of spot the Flackwell fan and failed to find many. None with any voice.

Some of the poor decisions by Mr G Owen left Town fans feeling short changed as time after time we never got blatent corners that should have been ours. 2/10 for Mr Owen.

Not by any means an easy game but we dug in on and off the pitch and won thorugh on the day! Flackwell had some useful runners up front that could easily catch a defence napping but whilst we could see how they thrashed Concord we were older and ready for them!

Well done town.

PS Burgers were nice but I don't think that they are used to feeding hungry town fans. Real mugs for the tea was nice though!
