Can we be play-off challengers....

Just a quick comment or two from me on the original topic.

Given that we currently sit in a 'safe' mid table position I think we have achieved what most supporters would have wanted in our first year at this level and if we end up finishing somewhere between 10th and 14th then I guess there won't be too many complaints.

We did only finish 5th in the league below so we (Bakes and I) have to keep reminding ourselves that play-offs this year was always going to be a tough ask. By no means have we given up on this as you only have to look at what we achieved in the 2nd half of last season, but we have no pressure from Steve to achieve this and we all realise this is now looking like a very tough ask. We will continue to try to win every game as we always do and collect as many points as possible and we'll see where this leaves us come the end of April.

A lot of people talk about (lack of) consistency but being the mid table team that most fans hoped we would be generally means winning one, then losing one, then drawing one and our record of W10 D9 L8 with a zero goal difference pretty much reflects that! Having said that we are extremely ambitiious and from a personal point of view we are not "happy" to be where we are in the league. We speak every day about where we are and how we can improve and we will certainly not be happy if we are in the same position this time next year.

We have to improve and become play-off challengers and it's up to Bakes and I to make sure we do so. We will be looking very closely at our performances in the coming months and this will be a key time for players to step up and show us they are capable of being in a play-off side as our job is to ensure that come the start of next season we are far better placed to challenge for a place in the top 5.

2015 has the potential to be a very exciting time for this football club and I'd like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and successful year and just ask that everyone continues to pull in the same direction and supports the lads as we try to achieve our ambitions!

Good post Jon. Myself and all of the fans I go with and chat to in the pub after the game are satisfied with consolidation this year. I'd say we are slightly above where I'd expect us to be at this point. I just put this month's fixtures into my diary as I always do at the start of each month and we have a very tough January ahead. We have shown we can hang with the top clubs this season, but we've also shown we can be beaten by those at the bottom. I guess that's where some of the consistency comments might come from...

For me, I'm happy for us to keep improving the team and for our young side to continue to gain experience at this level. Hopefully once the ground gets sorted, I'd expect us to start making a real push for the Conference South.

Looking forward to the year ahead. COYR!

I think playoff contenders next year is still a very ambitious target. Although we are a league higher I've often described to others the jump in quality as more than just one level. I'd be more than happy to consolidate again next year as a consistent top half team. If we can do better than that it would be a great effort.

Quite agree with everything that Jon, Mark and Ian say here really.

The only thing I've found frustrating this season is that the best performances have come on away days. The results at Truro, St Neots, Corby and Margate all spring to mind. A few years ago this wouldn't have mattered quite so much to me as I would have made all of those games and seen the performances first hand. Can't get to so many away games at the moment and I've missed all of those and therefore don't think I've seen a complete performance at this level from the team.

Same thing happened against Hungerford, I thought first half we were excellent and deservedly ahead but it went a bit flat second half and I found myself grumbling away. I am more than happy with where we are in the league but would like to see a few more home wins whilst my travelling days are restricted.

This is of course positive news for all those travelling to Histon on Saturday as I can't make it!

Our Managers have stated that they are ambitious and will be disappointed if we don't at least make the play-offs next season.

We are not a million miles off the play-offs this season, so hopefully with Warren Harris and Adam Foulser back and firing and the expected strengthening of the team, I see no reason why we can't make the top 5 next season.

If we can keep the majority of the team together and add a wing back and/or a winger and maybe another midfielder then we should give ourselves a good chance at aiming for the play offs. We should aim to challenge for the play offs, and minimum aim to improve our final league position compared to this year ( even if its only by one place).

Once we are in the new ground (whenever that may be) we should then be aiming seriously for the play offs.

The main aim would be keeping the managers and the majority of the squad !!!

True RR, although we don't know how Adam and Warren will adapt/cope with the higher level but I think they'll be upto it once they get going. Add in another couple of Premier quality signings and I think we could challenge a top 5 place next season.

I have no doubt that Wazza and Foulser will cope with the step up providing they both recover fully from their injuries both mentally and physically.

My ideal would be to get promoted the season before we move into our new ground.

What a homecoming that would be!!

Ideally, I'd like to have the new stadium built and be watching Conference football, before I snuff it ! ha ha ha!
