v St Neots

I think we had other things distracting our eyes rather that you wearing the colour purple  ;)

A horror show from St Neots in the first half, A really good decision to swap ends from a Slough point of view, I feel the wind gave you an advantage in the first half and we didn't really grasp that kicking long balls forward will end up not going when they were intended, but taking nothing away from Slough, fully deserved, you have some good players who play as a team and for the team and show lots of desire and togetherness, something money can't buy.

You are officially our bogey team now.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

I'm just wondering how long their Chairman will keep putting money into the club as I'm sure their squad isn't sustainable on their gates. Talking of attendances 199 last night was very poor for a side that's been out together at some expense, they have a lovely stadium and have had a lot success in recent years. Their Chairman keeps going on about they need a 500 average but they're way off that and would probably only achieve that in the next league up IF they're top 5 and including larger away attendances. I really can't see massive potential crowd wise for St. Neots and possibly this league is their level?

I totally understand your point, Champions league on TV is always a massive distraction on a a midweek night added to that the cold weather and current performances at home then you end up with a crowd of 199. Income doesn't just come from gate receipts either but that's a different topic but there's no denying the chairmans input.

I think the club does have the catchment and future catchment ( 4000 more houses to be built around the ground) but needs to engage more with the towns people, an issue many clubs have, I don't think last season helped at all  spending half the season battling against relegation. There also isn't the kid of buzz you would probably expect from being in the play off positions because it feels like we're 5th from bottom not, 5th from top.

Anyway i'm depressed enough

But even income from their off field activities wouldn't sustain that squad, their chairman must be heavily subsidising the club. I know the tv and weather factor comes into account especially for midweek games but 199 must have their chairman scratching his head! Fair enough you say there's a big new housing estate in the pipeline but their ground is already bang in the middle of a new massive housing estate! If they can't achieve decent crowds now with an expensive squad, recent success and a very nice stadium then when will they?

" If they can't achieve decent crowds now with an expensive squad, recent success and a very nice stadium then when will they?"

You could ask that question of many of the teams in this league, the only ones that seem to attract the crowds are ones that have played higher in the past, Weymouth, Corby, Dorchester, Hereford to name a few, You then have Poole who are flying at the top only attracting 309 average. St Neots has an average of 325 which is well above average and we still have the local home games v Corby, Hitchin, Biggleswade to come hopefully this average will rise.

Most football clubs are financed by someone who can afford to lose a bob or two, they aren't in it to make a profit.

general consensus after the game was that it looked like a fair few more than 199 there last night

we needed a big performance after the last few and every single player proved what they are capable of. the fact that people are praising our centre defence duo shows you just how well Rumbold did filling in alongside Hollis who was top drawer

we seemed to have the perfect game plan and executed it to perfection. the defence of St Neots looked desperately shaky and we exploited it time and again particularly 1st half

good call to give the captains armband to Sear against his former club. hadn't realised Knight was ex St Neots he too put in 1 of his best performances for us.

now we need to find a way to replicate this sort of performance on a more regular basis. Frome is a good chance to prove we can do just that

Yes, great call making Searsy skipper.

I think the general if not majority of opinions from St Neots supporters is that it was a big mistake letting Searsy go.

The attendance issue is something we need to be mindful of. St Newts have a fantastic setup and it's a great place to go and watch football. It's in the middle of a huge housing area and they have a decent team, yet they still struggle to attract people in.

If we get our new stadium back in Slough we cannot just assume that people will turn up.

Is St Neots football club within walking distance for the majority of the town?

Not really, could be up to 40 mins walk from the furthest part of town I would say, but yes within walking distance of most of the town, it probably doesn't help that its in a new part of of town someone would only go to if they were going to the footy club.

I think the million dollar question is would the attendances get bigger with further promotions.

Pretty obvious comments really, we learnt that we've got to mix it up in this league and below (how many times have we been undone in such a way?!). All our goals looked avoidable from their point of view, especially the second one!

I'm sure Hitchin, Chesham et al won't be happy being looked upon as lesser teams (to St. Newts).

Nor Slough as ST Neots have never beaten us.

I guess it's based on the day, what teams are based where in the table, St Neots were higher.

I darent even watch the goals again, seen enough goals conceded in unavoidable ways to this season to last a lifetime!
