Top strikers

Reading Rebel

Recommended Posts

Took a look at the top goal scorers in the Premier, Central and South and West division 1.

Amazed to see a player called John Mills, playing for Didcot who has already scored 32 goals with more than half the season still to go.

He also scored 2 goals in the last round of the trophy against Merthyr.

Can't see him being at Didcot for too long.

How can Hereford be in for any decent players when they keep being pulled up for financial issues? If he's scored that many he won't come cheap, plus surely he must have read/heard all about their situation, why would you be stupid enough to move there on no doubt empty promises! If I were him I'd wait until another more local club shows an interest...

Looking at strikers and us if you look at JD, Hatchett & Ed Smith's records for us they are all outstanding I don't think we need any more.

Where we do possibly lack goals is midfield from a central area (especialy with Warren out) and hopefully Luke Knight will start to add to our goals soon as all our other central midfielders are pretty defensive and looking at his goal for Barton against us last season goals are probably one of the reasons he was brought in.

With regards to other strikers at other clubs John Mills record is outstanding, but then so are other players.  You only need to look at Shane Cooper-Clark's record at Bracknell - 24 goals in 23 games this season!

I'm sure Bakes & Unders will have their eye on players lower down that might be able to step-up over the in all areas of the pitch.  If we look back over the summer if you remember we had Sam Barratt with us for a few games and I thought he was an excellent prospect.  Over the last few weeks he's just started to get in the Maidenhead side and is now getting some rave reviews.  Was really disappointed we could not get him over the summer.

But Sam isn't a striker, I meant that striker would struggle to get double figures at our level.

That's probably what they said about Austen ( QPR ) and Lambert ( Liverpool ) and countless others no doubt . Players can improve with better teams .

Someone on here was saying how good Simon Martin was - maybe he should be approached!

His goals to game ratio was close to Ed's - Ed has 75% goals to games ration and Simon has 75% no goals to games ratio.

Simon Martin in his heyday was wanted by Leicester City and was also bought by Hucknall Town for £10,000.

Given that he has also played for St Albans,Hayes and playing now for Hitchin in a higher league than when he was playing at Slough, he cannot be that bad !

A much younger Simon Martin was probably a decent player.

Obviously,RR !

Perhaps Simon Martin did something to Rebel1965,as he does seem rather fixated about his football ability.

We know Simon isn't a prolific scorer or has the skill of an Ed Smith or Johnny Dyer but to me he is an honest,hard-working,strong,battling forward, who in certain games can be a pain to mark,if you are a central defender and dependent on the style of play, can do a reasonable job and is a team player.Unlike some strikers.
