Whats the Financial Situation with the Fleet?

MHL

Recommended Posts

Seen some emails concerning Canvey and Lee Boylan.

After watching a lot of football last night (congratulations to the russkies and Dutch!!)

I was surprised at the state of Canveys Ground.

Honestly thought it would have been of better standard, as I was always led to believe they have money. Surely we can afford Boylan? I was told that we had recieved a generous Sponsership

deal? Whats the situation with the Fleet??

In this weeks Reporter, Andy is quoted as having money to spend:

"I spoke to the Chairman before last Saturday's match and he has made money available to increase the squad - or re-balance it."

Presumably the Club will be run at a loss this season too but the FA Cup run and the new sponsorship deal will help to balance the books.

A striker appears to be top of the Christmas Shopping list - how about Andy Hunt (released by Charlton) or Alan Tait (grabbed another hat-trick on Tuesday night)?

Well, judging by last night's TV footage, the stand behind the goal on the left side of the main camera (i.e. the stand furthest from the Thames) has actually been enlarged since I last saw it, which would have been January 2002 when we won 2-0 there. It used to have a roof, which seems to have been removed to allow the terracing to go further back. Either that or it was temporary terracing for such a big match.

The fact is, the appearance of the ground isn't of that much importance to the ground-grading officials - it's more mundane things like the number of exits that really matter.

There must be something we can do to get ourselves a decent Striker.

It cannot be a good thing if a team in a division below, can afford to keep a decent striker and we can't even tempt him away.

I know we ain't a pro unit but we need to compete on all fronts.

Sadly true though. Canvey will always be financially secure because of Kings caravan park (though I'm not sure why...?!)
Even Hornchurch, Thurrock, Grays and their ilk have far more cash than us..... just comes down to local business interests I s'pose.

Yes it was enlarged for conference grading the season we went up instead of them.
