Fa trophy slough vs Merthyr

MT were a good team. And I thought would thoroughly have deserved the win today. Apart from a few tame efforts our goal was our only shot on target of note, whilst they wasted some gilt edged chances. But as said before, we are still in it, and to battle a draw against a decent side is not a bad result at all.

our defence deserve credit for withstanding so much pressure but yes we may have been a bit lucky to get a replay although Merthyr helped by seemingly being happy to not go all out for the win after equalising despite being in the ascendency at the time

hopefully we have a strong team available for a difficult long midweek trip and one at short notice at that. going to be a tough game but being able to play more on the counter as said may favour us as sustaining pressure was impossible for us today at times

I thought we played on the counter for most of the game today?

We certainly didn't do ourselves justice today and ultimately we were a bit disappointing against, what must be said, was a very good Merthyr team.

We seemed to set ourselves up to play more defensively and as such gave Merthyr time on the ball to construct their moves and at the same time provided very little creativity for Ed Smith and DJ to feed off.

The positives were that defensively, mainly Jeffers, Yorkie and Parso, we looked solid and that we got away with a draw after playing so poorly.

One things certain, we'll have to play a lot better on Tuesday to stand any chance of progressing.

Looking at some of the comments on the Merthyr forum it's good to read that following yesterday's game they are predicting a comfortable win for Merthyr on Tuesday night.

Also amusing to read the silly 'Old Sods' match report.

He says that Merthyr played down the slope first half and that in his view 'Slough are a one dimensional team'.

Personally did feel we were slightly one dimensional yesterday. Luke Knight is not a wide player and whilst he puts in lots of effort I am not sure that playing out there suits him. Jake Parsons whilst a good player doesn't have quite the same pace and trickery as Wazza or Dobbo. Think as a consequence we did knock a lot of balls into JD and smithy in an effort to build from there.

I thought we defended admirably but struggled to create too many clear cut chances.

Thought Jeffreys and Yorke had solid games and Adrian Sear had his best game for us so far.

At the moment think 3-5-2 suits us better than 4-4-2 as we lack the natural wide players through injury etc

Totally agree, thought we were one dimensional but that it was forced as we have no wide players available apart from jake.

It did seem like we adopted a bit of a long ball into smithy and JD but our hands were tied with what was available.

Hopefully with dobbo back on Tuesday we can create more chances. I would also assume with knight unavailable this would be a straight swap with rummy starting on the bench

We shall see, in the hat and let's hope for a winnable tie as even if we lose Tuesday would be nice to see Merthyr go another couple of rounds

Must say although I thought Merthyr were good & would easily hold their own in our division, I did think the likes of Redditch, Poole & Weymouth were better.

Still think we can and we've got every a chance of winning Tuesday. Look what we did at the likes of good sides like Corby & Margate.

Thought half our problem yesterday was we took the lead and then just sat back and let them have the ball - and they are a good side on the ball with a number of ex-professionals in their side, so we were always going to be under pressure.
