Slough v Paulton

Excellent second half performance where, with the exception of the last 5 minutes where we got a little complacent, we put Paulton to the sword throughout and turned around a 2-0 half time deficit. The first half was a little toothless although ed and Jamie mcclurg both had excellent chances. Paultons 2 saw red for a horrendous studs up tackle on Ryan parsons but we still allowed them to get a second before the break. Scott Harris who was immense throughout scored an excellent hat trick with his second being an audacious back flick. Paultons 3 also saw red having been a walking red card since the opening 20 minutes with his constant moaning at the ref. Smithy got himself onto the 20 all time top scoters list with nearly the last kick whilst their 12 was also lucky not to get sent off late on for a late tackle by the touch line. It must be said though that Reece yorke appeared to get very lucky when, already on a booking, he appeared to take out the number 10 who would have been through on goal. The ref have nothing and seconds later we had levelled at 2-2. The majority of slough fans at that end were certain a ref card was on it's way but maybe that was a bit of luck we've deserved. All in all an excellent second half showing and another win. Paultons keeper also deserves a mention for an unbelievable double save firstly from dyer and then knight.

Another great comeback from 2-0 down and how good is Scott Harris right now? I felt he dragged us to the points today and his second wouldn't be out of place on a Lionel Messi highlight reel.

In all honesty though, I thought all the luck was with us today and all the major decisions seemed to go our way. With a 2 man advantage and having clawed it back to 3-2 we seemed determined to throw the game away. Still difficult conditions and  3 points is 3 points - we are very much in touch with the playoffs and if nothing else, we are getting value for money from the Rebels in terms of goals.

I was at the end where Yorkie made that tackle and my immediate reaction was to look at what covering defenders there were to see whether the card would be yellow or red. I was gobsmacked when the referee waved it away. For us to then go and score must have been especially galling for Paulton.

Even with a man down I'm surprised they sat so deep in the second half and pretty much invited the pressure that saw us get the goals to turn it round.

Congrats to Ed for making it into the top 20 all-time Rebels' scorers and and also to Scott for a great hatchet-trick!

Can't agree Radders that  quote 'we put Paulton to the sword throughout',as I thought Paulton gave us a run for our money and even with ten men and then nine, created a number of chances for themselves and could easily have snatched a draw.

Had they kept all eleven of their players on the field of play,we would have had our work cut to get a result today.

I thought they looked a very useful, well organized, enthusiastic team and another very competent Premier division side.

Still, having said all that, Slough were unlucky to go in at half time 0-2 down as we had played well in the game, with both sides playing high tempo, competitive football,in what was atrocious conditions.

Thought our management made the right decisions with the substitions and their calls to play a passing game, with our centre halves pushing on, against the 10 and 9 men Paulton, were spot on but at times, our players struggled with the conditions to make this work and also credit to Paulton, who were resilient and plucky and weren't going to be whipping boys for anyone.

Their number 10[Jon Davies,I think] was a constant threat to us and looked a very good player.

For me Guy Hollis was my Man of the Match. After having flu symptoms on Thursday at training,he's likely to have pneumonia now, after playing in that rain today![Cheers Gaffers!] Though, you would never have thought, by his performance, that he was 'under the weather'.

Hatchet also had another stormer and it's great to see him and Smithy working so well together.

Billy Jeffery's ,apart from one slip up,put in a very assured shift for the team and is going to be a big player for us this season and next.

Despite the torrential rain,I really enjoyed the match and both sides deserve praise for their efforts. The referee did get some stick from the Paulton bench about a few of his decisions. The sending off of their first player, after his reckless challenge, did seem harsh,by not taking into account  the horrendous conditions but from where I was standing,it was hard to see what the right judgement was.

I didn't think the ref was one of the worst we've seen but he did seem inconsistent with some of the decisions he made.

Merthyr should be a cracker.Let's hope it's not raining ! :)

So many decisions changed the outcome of the game, you could talk about it all day!

I'll only talk about the ones the management could influence though off the pitch and thought the introduction of Adrian Sear & Jake in particular helped us hugely. Shows you what I know as I was just thinking get JD on!!

Well done Ed on entering the top 20 and well done Scott Harris. Him & Dobbo IMO have been awesome this season.

My comment regarding putting them to the sword was based on the fact that watching from down the far end I remember wave after wave after wave if attack and with the exception of the Reece yorke incident and the sitter the 9 missed (at 2-2 I think) we dominated until the last 5 minutes, when as I said, we didn't close the game down as effectively as I would have liked. Agree that Paulton deserve a lot of credit (well the 9 who kept their heads and stayed on the pitch) for keeping the game competitive to the very end.

Some contradictory opinions there 3spirit.

'Reckless challenge' but harsh sending off?

IMO doesn't matter about the conditions if it's reckless and the player has no control when he dives into the challenge, it's a red card.

I thought the tackle on Ryan was absolutely dreadful, definate red.

Really good come back by the team in awful conditions for both sides. Well done to Scott think he is playing brilliantly.

As for Guy what a hero, most men would be dying upwards if they had man flu, not that i'm biased lol x

We'll have to agree to differ,Radders.

I thought Slough edged the play until Paulton scored their first. Then Paulton had the better of the play, even when at ten men, until Slough made the double substitutions, after that Slough were on the front foot in the main and creating chances but we did waste a number of attempts at goal with our tame shooting but then we did start turning the screw on the under-manned Paulton but even when down to nine outfield players, our visitors had two glorious chances to get something from the game,by our complacency in defending properly in the latter stages of the match.

I'm relieved that we managed to win the game.
