Dereham Town v Enfield Town

The FA Trophy is a highlight for most non-League clubs, and tomorrow Town travel up to Norfolk to face Dereham Town in the First Round Qualifying, with a handy £2,700 up for grabs for the winners, from the FA Prize Fund.

Our opponents are a well established club, founded in 1884, they play at Aldiss Park, and are nick-named 'The Magpies'. Last season Dereham won the Thurston Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division title, and gained promotion to the Ryman North. They are currently 9th in the table.

In the FA Cup this season 'The Magpies' drew at St Neots, won the replay at Aldiss Park, before losing 3-1 away to Boston United in the next round. Two weeks ago they hosted Hanwell Town in the FA Trophy, winning a close encounter 2-1.

Dereham's home form has been somewhat erratic over the past month, losing 0-3 to Cheshunt and 1-4 to Great Wakering Rovers last Saturday.

Town are showing superb form in recent weeks, producing some excellent results, not least against Ryman Premier League leaders Margate on Tuesday evening.

One-off matches are never easy, but Town will fancy their chances against 'The Magpies', and will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run at Aldiss Park, with the vocal support of the Enfield Ultras and other Towners.

Very best of luck to Brad and the boys. Let's do the business guys and progress to the next round!!

Thought I would take a quick peep at the Dereham Times to see what is being said locally, up in Norfolk, about todays match.

Dereham Town boss Matt Henman believes his players FA Cup exploits this season, can help them pull off a Trophy upset this afternoon, despite the absence of their top striker Luke Tuttle who could be sidelined for up to two months.

Henman, who watched Town beat league leaders Margate on Tuesday, said: " They looked a good side with a lot of athleticism, pace and energy about them. They're quite a handful from set pieces, but they've not got an outstanding threat as such".

An interesting comment.  Let's see what happens this afternoon !!

Yes, over and out !!

Congratulations to Dereham on their win, but a very, very disappointing result for the Town, going out of the competition at the first hurdle.

Feel very sorry for all those Towners who made the long journey up to Norfolk. Be very interested to hear their thoughts on our team performance and the result.

Where and why did it all go so badly wrong ??  Sure many supporters will be asking themselves this question.

Let's hear from you.

First half - Dereham played high and we did not have the pace or skill to beat their offside trap. Indeed very few players were caught out offside demonstrating that the youngsters were not standing tight to their markers so they could run off them. Called out for Tyler Campbell imv.

Second half - not much to say. Their defence marshalled themselves well - though their tactics seemed to consist of lumping it forward. The midfield did not seem to get forward to support our forwards. Left to Mark Kirby to come up in support of the midfield and defenders. Their midfielder got a clear shot in from a defensive foul up and that was it. Game over.

The grass was long. Sun in our eyes first half. The lino on the far side only saw one team. Ref suffered from small person syndrome. Usual excuses.

We shall now see just how good a manager Brad is as the team will be down after that result.

Think Brad was badly let down by his players yesterday.

In the run-up to the match, he was quoted in the local press saying " The FA Trophy has a big prize fund, which is important for clubs like ours, and it would be great to get a bit of a cup run. We want to go as far in the competition as we can".

After the string of excellent results achieved, since he took over as Manager, Brad had every reason to be confident and optimistic of getting a result.

Unfortunately, it didn't happen and according to tweets on the ETFC official website it was "a pretty poor game", we delivered "a very lacklustre performance" and in the end  "we got what we deserved".

I don't know if that is right, but yet again Town have failed to make an impact in this major money-making competition. It is not a national disaster, and Town will bounce back, but right now it is a shock and big disappointment for all Town supporters. Let's get over it and move on !!

Would only be a 3-game ban for a red card for violent conduct/serious foul play.  If it was for denying a goalscoring opportunity, it would be 1 or 2 games (forget which)
