Mo Shariff

Since leaving us for QPR a few years back I believe he then went onto play for Bradford City for a bit.

Looks like there is a Mo now playing Sunday league football in Slough for Real Milan:

Anyone know if it's the same player who played for us? A hugely talented player as we all know.

Look forwards not back. Must be a reason no one has picked him up. Team spirit above individual talent any day.

Thinking about it, when compiling youth team and reserves match reports in previous seasons, I think there was 'another' Mo Sharif so are we sure this is the same one? It's a baffling fall from grace if it is, as I thought he was doing well for QPR's reserves. Maybe it was his attitude after all.

If he is under contract there is no way he should be playing Sunday football (would be gross misconduct), is one thing we do not agree with at all, and if we found out anyone was playing on Sundays then we would be having serious conversations with them about it, to the extent that if it did not stop then there would be repercussions.

No idea how accurate this site is, but possibly suggests he wasn't under contract whilst at Bradford and also suggests he is still there.

the site would suggest that Mo has the #16 and on the Bradford city website there is no one listed as number #16, may be because he isn't under contract or may be because he left.

Again no idea how accurate it is.

As somebody who runs a mens Sunday team myself, that is indeed correct that players under contract cannot play Sunday football. That is a long-standing F.A. rule and something that those of us who have been running Sunday teams for any length of time are very much aware of. We would certainly never attempt to risk it.

Now I'm not accusing Bakes and Unders of neccessarily doing this, but something that really does annoy us Sunday team managers is the attitude of most Saturday Semi-Pro club managers towards their 'fringe' non-contract squad players who are sitting on the bench for matches more often than not and are desperate for more game time.

They are allowed to go off and play for clubs lower down the pyramid (i.e. Step 5 - 7) on a Saturday to get some match practice, but 'no way' are they playing Sunday League football against 'a bunch of beer-bellied thugs on dangerous pitches where they are bound to get injured'. They also think that if a player gets sent off on a Sunday, he also ends up getting banned for about 10 Saturday/Tuesday matches ! Well that rule changed three years ago...thankfully. Get sent off on a Sunday now and you can still play Saturday football during that suspension...and vice-versa. Get sent off playing for a Step 5-7 club on a Saturday though, then you cant play for STFC at Step 3 either.

Yes, roughly 50% of Sunday League football is an atrociously bad standard played on dodgy pitches with players not knowing how to tackle properly, but the Premier Divisions of most Sunday Leagues (and particularly the one that my team plays in) is most definitely Step 5-6 Saturday Non-League Pyramid standard in terms of fitness, ability, organisation and the quality of playing surface.

We currently have Fitz Hall playing in our League for Percival (having been released by QPR at the end of last season). Also Lee Marshall (ex-Leicester, Norwich & West Brom) playing for Lea Valley Royals. If they can play Sunday League football, why not Mo Sharif (assuming he is not on contract at the moment) ?

By the way Bakes, have you got a (non-contract) goalkeeper we can borrow for our game next Sunday ?  ;)  :D

Not correct Laurence, if you are sent off on a Sunday you are suspended from all football until that side has either played 1 or 3 games depending on the ban (and vice versa if sent off on a Saturday you are banned from all football), that is where you can then have a problem, say a lad gets sent off early December, he has to wait 3 Sundays for suspension to be finished, you can then have games called off due to poor pitches, when in the Southern League they will probably go ahead (plus you can easily end up missing more than 3 senior games as midweeks etc)... I can go on, and I understand Sunday football has its importance, however not for myself managing at this level.

Of course there are some good teams that play at that level, and some good players, however I have watched some of the better games, and you still get poorer officials more often than not, and you do still get sides with players who are happy to try and make a name for themselves....

Not for us I am afraid, would much prefer them going out to a step 5 side every day of the week.

Sorry just my opinion.
