Kaiser Gibbs Batman (KGB)
Apologies if Ralph Millers's passing has been acknowledged previously but the obituary below has recently been posted on a popular non-league football website. "It was reported in Saturday's AFC Bournemouth v Charlton Athletic programme that Ralph Miller, who played for both clubs, recently passed away, aged 73.Ralph started his career with Slough Town before he joined Charlton in September 1963, making his Football League debut for the Addicks at Rotherham United a year later. Ralph moved to Gillingham in May 1965 where he made 103 appearances before moving to Dean Court in July 1968.A defender, he missed only one match in his first season for the Cherries and went on to make 72 appearances for the club, scoring his only goal in a 2-1 defeat at Southport in December 1968.He later played for Weymouth, Poole Town and Ringwood Town." Like many who watched Slough regularly at the time, I have very fond memories of Ralph's superbly timed sliding tackles and occasional forays down the right wing, less so of his odd own goal or two in crucial matches. He was, deservedly, a most popular member of the Slough team and went on to enjoy sustained success in the professional game.
